Description
Itona Horibe is a student who joins Kunugigaoka Junior High School’s Class 3-E as a transfer student with a specific mission. He is the only son of a family that ran a small electronics manufacturing plant, which produced key parts for smartphones. Their family business went bankrupt due to competition from larger corporations, leading to his parents’ disappearance and leaving Itona homeless and subjected to bullying by his peers. While living on the streets, he was found by a man known as Shiro, who saw potential in him and subjected him to experimental body modification surgery, transplanting powerful tentacle cells into him to transform him into a weapon designed to assassinate the target.

Itona is a boy of short stature with a lean but toned build. He has spiky white hair, which in reality functions as the base for his tentacles, and golden, insect-like eyes. His expression rarely changes, often giving him a calm, cool, and detached appearance. Underneath this placid exterior, he initially harbors an intense and single-minded obsession with strength and power, stemming directly from the traumatic loss of his family’s livelihood and his subsequent helplessness. This obsession was deliberately cultivated by Shiro, who also fabricated a backstory for him, including the false claim that he is the younger brother of the target. Despite his often-serious demeanor, Itona possesses age-appropriate, boyish interests, such as a fondness for sweets and an interest in adult magazines and large breasts, which are traits that help him later bond with his male classmates.

His primary motivation throughout the early part of his introduction is to prove his strength by assassinating the target. He views all others, including classmates, as obstacles and has no interest in studying, as he believes only power matters. This desire for power, however, is a double-edged sword; the very tentacles that grant him incredible abilities also consume enormous amounts of mental energy, dulling his intellect and making him more aggressive and volatile.

Itona’s role in the story begins as an antagonist and a tool for his handler, Shiro. He physically debuts by crashing through the wall of the E-class classroom, immediately establishing himself as a dangerous threat. He confronts the target in several battles, exploiting its weaknesses. However, after repeated failures, Shiro deems him useless and abandons him. The tentacles, now out of control, begin to corrode his body, and he faces death. It is at this moment that he is saved by the combined efforts of the target and the very E-class students he once dismissed.

This rescue is a pivotal turning point. The students, particularly Ryoma Terasaka and his friend group, take responsibility for helping Itona. They create a special headband for him from the anti-tentacle net material to suppress his impulses and take him on outings to relieve his tension. Through their persistence, Itona learns to let go of his obsessive need for power, allowing the target to safely remove his tentacles. Following this, he officially becomes a full member of Class 3-E, with attendance number 28.

His relationships transform completely. He becomes especially close to the group of boys led by Terasaka, frequently hanging out with them, engaging in playful banter, and often critiquing Terasaka as a form of bonding. His relationship with his father is also eventually mended, and they later reunite and work together to rebuild their family business.

With the tentacles removed, Itona’s true intelligence and innate abilities emerge. He had been surprisingly bright, which was previously suppressed by the tentacle cells. He demonstrates a remarkable talent for electronics and craftsmanship, a skill he likely learned from his family’s factory. He becomes the class’s resident inventor and tech expert, building custom remote-controlled vehicles, drones, and robots for assassination and reconnaissance purposes. While his physical abilities are still above average due to the lingering effects of his modification, his primary contribution shifts from brute force to technical ingenuity and strategy. He also applies himself academically, ranking 33rd in a final exam, which is a solid placement given his limited time in the class.

In terms of notable abilities, his most powerful were the tentacles on his head, which granted him superhuman speed, strength, and mobility comparable to the target’s own powers, making him a formidable close-range combatant. However, rejecting these tentacles was essential for his survival. After their removal, his defining ability becomes his genius-level mechanical engineering and inventiveness, allowing him to craft sophisticated gadgets that become integral to the class’s collaborative assassination efforts. After graduating, Itona chooses to forgo higher education, focusing instead on engineering and using his prize money from the assassination to rebuild and run his father’s factory, finally achieving his goal of reclaiming his family’s legacy.
