Born David Anthony Matranga on April 20, 1975, in Houston, Texas, he developed a passion for performing arts from a young age, participating in school plays and learning piano and trombone. He pursued this interest academically, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre and later a Master of Fine Arts in Acting from the prestigious Yale School of Drama. His professional career spans stage, on-camera work, and voice acting, having lent his voice to hundreds of characters in animation and video games.

Matranga's career in anime dubbing began in the early 2000s, with some of his first roles including the titular character in the 2001 series Orphen and Genjo Sanzo in the 2003 series Saiyuki.
