Yuri Sakuma Dmitriyevich, known as Julie, was Hampnie Hambart's childhood friend and former best friend. His wife's death and immobilization by Hampnie six years before the main events ignited his quest for revenge. The subsequent, unspecified loss of his daughter further fueled his vengeance. Driven by this grudge, he challenges Hampnie to a duel upon encountering him with Ai. Hampnie perceives Julie's actions as cowardice, believing Julie secretly wishes for Hampnie to kill him rather than endure the pain of his losses alone.

Despite his rugged appearance, Julie typically exhibits a caring and softhearted nature. After Hampnie's death and burial, he joins Ai and Scar on their travels, gradually adopting a protective, father-figure role within the group. He demonstrates concern for Ai's safety, such as when she confronts Princess Ulla in Ortus. His bond with Scar strengthens significantly over time; he shows deep worry during her disappearance, and they grow closer while jointly caring for Celica, a rescued baby they adopt. Protecting the group becomes a defining aspect of his character throughout their journey.

Physically, Julie has short, somewhat messy brown hair and a goatee. He maintains a stoic, serious expression and usually wears a long-sleeved white shirt, brown pants, and a long grayish-brown coat. He carries a long rifle, initially intended for revenge but later used for general protection during his travels with Ai and Scar.
