Briareos Hecatonchires is one of the two central protagonists of the Appleseed franchise, serving as a highly skilled ESWAT (Extra Special Weapons and Tactics) officer alongside his partner and lover, Deunan Knute. His name is derived from Greek mythology, referencing Briareus the Vigorous, one of the hundred-armed giants known as the Hecatonchires.
Briareos has a troubled and complex past. Originally from the Mediterranean, he was exploited as a child by the KGB to perform acts of terrorism.
