Description
Danka Niel Maple is an elf warrior from the Great Canada Forest and a resident of the elven capital city of Maple. He possesses a profound mistrust of humans, a trait born from the elves' history of persecution, which makes him cautious and hesitant to trust strangers, though he remains pragmatic when the situation demands.
His unwavering loyalty to his people is the driving force behind his commitment to freeing elves enslaved by humans. His first chronological appearance occurs during a patrol near the forests bordering the human town of Diento, where he encounters the armored knight Arc. Despite initial hostility and suspicion, the meeting avoids violence due to Arc's friendly demeanor and the presence of a spirit beast.
Fate later draws him into a joint rescue operation to free elves held in Diento. Although reluctant to trust a human, Danka acknowledges the strategic advantage of Arc's unique teleportation magic and permits his involvement. During the raid, the group discovers a slave warehouse already attacked, with guards slain by an unknown assailant. They successfully liberate four elves and escape the burning facility. Danka then takes charge of leading the freed slaves to safety while Arc and another elf, Ariane, proceed to rescue two additional captives.
He later reunites with Ariane and Arc in the kingdom of Landfrea as part of elven relief forces headed to Drant. During this encounter, he greets Arc grudgingly and reacts with stunned suspicion upon learning that Arc has been made a member of the elven village Lalatoya and is presented as a type of dark elf. This revelation contradicts Arc’s earlier claim of being human, prompting Danka to vow a close watch on him, underscoring his persistent distrust.
As a warrior from Maple, a city celebrated for the martial prowess of its inhabitants, Danka ranks among the top-tier fighters of his kind.
He shares a trusted camaraderie with Ariane, a fellow warrior on the same mission to free enslaved elves. He respects her skills and judgment, offering personal comfort by advising her to cease comparisons with her sister and acknowledging her capabilities as a formidable warrior with potential for growth. Their paths diverge after the events in Diento, though they meet again later. In contrast, his relationship with Arc remains strained and suspicious throughout their interactions, never warming despite Arc's repeated assistance, largely due to Arc's vague and mysterious origins.
Across different media, his portrayal varies. In the light novel, his role is more minor, and he meets Arc again on a boat to Drant, maintaining his distrust. The manga adaptation depicts him trusting Arc more quickly after witnessing his magic and his help with enslaved elven children. The manga also shows him dispatched to Houvan to rescue a captive elf, later replacing another character, Goemon, in the southern continent, and credits him with being responsible for the fall of Houvan. His birthday is November 4.
