Description
Furuichi Teraoka, a sharp-witted high school student, shares an irreverent bond with friends Akiyuki Takehara and Haru Nishimura, trading jabs and practicing martial arts while casually wagering on Akiyuki’s tardiness. A terrorist attack ruptures this routine when a searing light pierces their school bus, lodging a Hiruko into his right thigh—a wound bandaged but deceptively harmless.

Drawn into Sentan Island’s reconstruction efforts, he enlists with Haru in the East Autonomy Military, battling Humanform Weapons as war reshapes his playful cynicism into venomous hostility. His simmering jealousy over Haru’s unreturned affection for Akiyuki curdles into cruelty, fracturing their camaraderie.

At Tsumebara Pass, Furuichi confronts Akiyuki, now a masked Xam’d, and launches an attack that severs their friendship. Consumed by resentment, he undergoes experimental augmentation, triggering an aberrant transformation into a maskless Xam’d—a spindly, tentacled entity thrashing with pure hatred.

In a final clash, Furuichi drags Haru into a monstrous evolved form, overpowering Akiyuki until her rejection and his friend’s counterstrike pierce his rage. Momentarily lucid, he whispers lines from Haru’s school play, a fleeting echo of their past. Though Nakiami reverts him to human flesh, his unyielding spite defies the Xam’d’s petrified fate.

Escaping military captivity, he buys three Ramune bottles—one for each friend—before soldiers corner him. Declaring his wish to disappear, he unleashes his Xam’d power in a fatal strike, ending his spiral from sardonic teen to self-destructive force. His bonds, once lighthearted, corrode into rivalry and obsessive longing, etching a portrait of envy warped by conflict’s crucible.
