TV-Series
Description
Dr. Skinner is the central figure around whom the conflict of the series revolves. A man of immense intellectual achievement, he is a three-time Nobel Prize recipient and was once regarded as a scientific prodigy on par with Albert Einstein, having been born in Istanbul on June 11, 1996. His academic path was exceptional: he enrolled at ETH Zurich at the age of sixteen, later studied at the University of Cambridge, and by 2018 was an assistant professor at Stanford University, eventually becoming a full professor there in 2024. Beyond his scientific work, he was known as an environmentalist and peace activist, a reputation that made his later actions all the more shocking to the world.

In the year 2045, Skinner introduced Hapna, a revolutionary painkiller with no apparent side effects that could also dull emotional pain. The drug was an enormous success and was widely used both medically and recreationally. However, he vanished a year later. In 2049, he reappeared via an online broadcast to deliver a devastating announcement: Hapna was engineered to remain in the user's body and, after three years, would mutate into a lethal toxin. He declared that the first wave of deaths would begin in thirty days and that he possessed the cure, which he would give to anyone who could find him anywhere in the world before that deadline.

Skinner's stated public motivation was a deep despair over humanity's violence and environmental destruction. He had previously spoken before the United Nations about the imminent melting of the polar ice caps, a warning that was ignored when nations such as the United States walked out of the assembly, an event that seemed to break his spirit. This disillusionment led the world to believe he had become an eco-terrorist willing to orchestrate a mass extinction to allow nature to reclaim the planet.

However, the true scope of his motivations was more complex, revealing a hidden backstory. Years earlier, the military organization INSCOM had been using his research to develop a biological weapon. When Skinner attempted to blow the whistle by taking a sample of this bioweapon to Europe, he was tracked to an airport by the army. A chaotic firefight broke out, and a stray bullet struck his suitcase, releasing the poisonous gas. The leak killed nearly everyone at the scene, with only Skinner and five others surviving, though those five, who would later become the members of the task force Lazarus, developed an immunity to the toxin. To ensure the existence of the bioweapon could not be hidden, Skinner created Hapna using the same core components, forcing the world to confront a problem that could no longer be ignored.

Throughout the global manhunt, Skinner remained hidden and enigmatic. He had taken his own drug early on and was suffering its final effects, including blindness, by the time the story reaches its climax. He had been hiding in a homeless encampment in Babylonia City, having entrusted the GPS signal from his artificial heart to a world-class hacker named Lynn, also known as Popcorn Wizard, with instructions to give the location to anyone who came looking for it. Skinner also had a deep, affectionately remembered relationship with his grandmother.

His role in the narrative is not that of a conventional antagonist but the catalyst for the entire plot. He is the architect of humanity's countdown to annihilation, yet he is also the sole source of its salvation. His actions are a desperate, morally extreme gambit to expose a secret weapons program and deliver a final, undeniable warning to a complacent world. In the final episode, the Lazarus team finds him, and true to his word, he provides the formula for the cure. When asked by a team member if he truly wished to be found or would have preferred to see humanity perish, Skinner asked for his opinion of the world. Upon hearing that it was terrible but should not be abandoned, Skinner died with a smile on his face. His death marked the resolution of the crisis, and he was mourned by his former mentee and the leader of the Lazarus team, Hersch Lindemann.

In terms of notable abilities, Skinner is not a physical combatant but possesses a genius-level intellect. His expertise spans applied mathematics, chemical physics, and quantum biology, allowing him to create both a sophisticated lethal agent in Hapna and its cure. He demonstrated considerable foresight and skill in orchestrating his disappearance and the logistics of the global challenge he issued, evading capture for the entire duration of the countdown.
