TV-Series
Description
Jiart is a prince of the Wulgaru, the alien empire that wages war against humanity, and he serves as the primary rival to the protagonist Izuru Hitachi. He holds the rank of Prae Exegus, the second prince of the United Pan-Galactic Empire, and is the younger half-brother of the reigning Wulgaru Emperor Galkie as well as the brother of Teoria. In appearance he is a teenage young man with shoulder-length wavy silver hair and blue-green eyes, and his royal status grants him command over his own military division.
The Wulgaru are a species concerned with their own biological decline, and they seeded their genetic material across the universe so that it would evolve into new life forms, which they later hunt and harvest as lamata, or prey, to strengthen their own genes. Jiart fully embraces this predatory worldview and follows the principle of survival of the fittest. He participates directly in the invasion of Earth, commanding forces whose machines are dark with a bluish glow, while he himself pilots a white mobile weapon that only members of the imperial family are permitted to use.
Jiart is defined by his instinct-driven personality. He is described as the embodiment of free will, acting purely on his desires without regard for rules or consequences. His hedonism is evident in his behavior, such as making advances toward his brother's attendants and attempting to skip important meetings. His ego and craving for satisfaction are central to who he is, but he is not merely a brute. He holds a personal code regarding the Wulgaru hunt known as shikara, preferring one-on-one duels against strong opponents over lopsided massacres, and he is willing to discard even allies who interfere with his chosen prey. He is also more perceptive than he first appears, being among the first of his people to notice the contrast between the altruistic nature of the humans he fights and the self-centered nature of the Wulgaru, and he conducts covert intelligence operations through his trusted subordinate Lumes.
His motivations are personal rather than ideological. He seeks worthy opponents to hunt, is indifferent to weak enemies, and becomes intensely interested in those who prove themselves strong. After Team Rabbits defeats the Wulgaru commander Rada, Jiart begins to fixate on the team, and following the Ceres campaign he regards Izuru and his Red Five unit as his prey above all else. He also desires his sister Teoria, who fled the Wulgaru and took refuge on Earth. His campaign against Earth is partly driven by wanting to reclaim her, while at the same time he secretly uses Lumes to search for her whereabouts.
Within the story, Jiart gradually becomes the most dangerous opponent the Earth forces face. He refuses to disclose information about his target to the other Wulgaru commanders, instead encouraging each of them to find their own prey. He later attacks Team Rabbits while they are rescuing the senior Team Doberman, easily handling the newer pilot Ange and her unit before turning his attention to Izuru. When the Wulgaru launch their final assault on Earth, Jiart cares little about the broader battle and instead attacks Izuru's teammates simply to force Izuru to appear. This leads to the climactic confrontation of the series, during which Jiart abandons everything else, including a chance to reach Teoria, in order to complete his hunt.
His key relationships are shaped by his possessive and obsessive nature. He deeply admires his older half-brother, Emperor Galkie, and is devoted to him despite his own wild behavior. His feelings toward Teoria are complicated and possessive rather than respectful; he quietly eliminates a commander who overheard sensitive information about her, showing that he wants to protect her, yet he also treats her as something he wishes to own. When forced to choose between her and his duel with Izuru, he chooses the fight. Lumes serves as his loyal agent, carrying out reconnaissance and eventually pulling him from the battlefield after his final battle. Most significantly, his relationship with Izuru defines his role in the series, as he grows increasingly delighted by Izuru's progress and treats each of Izuru's awakenings as a reason to enjoy the fight even more.
Jiart also undergoes notable development. Initially a casually arrogant warrior, he becomes a focused hunter whose entire purpose narrows to his confrontation with Izuru. When Izuru awakens hidden power, Jiart responds by awakening his own, pushing his machine into an enhanced state and meeting the protagonist as an equal rather than being overwhelmed. During the final battle, he ignores all tactical concerns and even refuses Lumes' calls to retreat, fighting purely for the sake of the hunt. After the massive explosion that ends the main battle, he continues his attack on the damaged Izuru despite his own injuries, and he is finally defeated only when Izuru uses a clever tactic involving the separation of his weapon unit. The television series leaves his fate uncertain in the explosion, while a later theatrical feature includes a scene showing that he survived and withdrew with Lumes' help.
In terms of ability, Jiart is regarded as one of the most powerful warriors the Wulgaru have ever produced, and most attacks against him prove ineffective. His white royal machine possesses overwhelming speed and power, allowing him to outpace Izuru's Red Five, easily evade point-blank gunfire from other Team Rabbits units, and counter with a single sword stroke. He specializes in high-speed close combat with a blade. When his emotions surge, his machine can shift into an overload mode that greatly increases its speed and power, granting him techniques such as rapid unarmed combat, binding enemies with extendable fin-like appendages, and launching destructive energy projectiles, although this form sharply reduces how long he can remain active. In addition to his combat prowess, he demonstrates strategic awareness and the ability to command his own division of ships and mobile weapons throughout the invasion.
