TV-Series
Description
Minoru Minorikawa is a freelance reporter who plays a central role in the events of CANAAN as a grounded, human perspective within a story dominated by superhuman combatants and global conspiracies. Before the series begins, he was a survivor of the Shibuya bio-terrorism incident, an experience that shaped his worldview and left him with a personal stake in uncovering the truth behind the Ua virus and those who would weaponize it. Two years later, he is assigned to Shanghai alongside his junior colleague and partner, Maria Osawa, to cover the Shanghai NBCR International Anti-Terrorist Conference.

Minorikawa is a hot-headed and irreverent person, often brash in his approach and quick to speak his mind, which can come across as snarky or moody. He is also confident and audacious, demonstrating a sharp analytical mind capable of assessing complex political situations and piecing together clues that others might miss. Despite his sometimes abrasive exterior, he takes his responsibility as a journalist seriously and is deeply committed to his work, driven by a passion for uncovering the truth and a sense of duty to the public. He is not above breaking rules or taking risks to get a story or to protect others, and his courage frequently places him in danger.

His primary motivation throughout the story is to expose the secrets behind Alphard's terrorist organization, known as Snake, and to reveal the truth about the Borners, individuals who have been infected with the Ua virus. He is determined to understand the conspiracy that connects the events in Shanghai to his own traumatic past in Shibuya. This investigative drive leads him to follow crucial leads, such as investigating a strange purple mark on an assassin's body, which he ties back to the earlier incident.

His role in the story is that of an investigator and a bridge between the ordinary world and the hidden conflict. He is the one who actively seeks answers, connecting the dots and providing the narrative with a journalistic lens through which the audience can understand the larger mystery. He acts as a partner and a senior colleague to Maria Osawa, whom he supervises and supports. Alongside Maria and others, he travels to Western China to trace the origin of the new Ua virus and track down Alphard. Later, he returns safely to Japan with Maria.

His key relationships are primarily with Maria Osawa and with Canaan. Maria and Canaan nickname him Mino-san, a sign of their familiarity and affection. With Maria, he shares a professional partnership that also carries a personal dimension, as both are survivors of the Shibuya incident. He is her senpai and protector in the field. With Canaan, he develops a working relationship based on mutual respect, as she provides him with access to the violent reality he is trying to report on. While he initially provides some moments of relief, he is not merely a comic figure; his investigative skills and bravery make him an asset to the main characters.

In terms of development, Minorikawa evolves from a somewhat impulsive and cynical reporter into a more determined and effective investigator who understands the stakes of the conflict he has uncovered. He learns to navigate a world of assassins and terrorist plots without losing his core commitment to the truth.

Minorikawa does not possess superhuman abilities. His notable abilities are his journalistic instincts, his capacity for critical analysis, his charisma and persuasive skills for extracting information, and his willingness to put himself in harm's way to expose the truth. He relies on his wits, his experience as a survivor, and his dedication to his work, making him one of the few ordinary people willing to stand up against extraordinary threats.
