Description
Ansbach was chief advisor and loyal aide to Imperial Duke Otho von Braunschweig, holding the rank of commodore in the Galactic Empire. His duties included defending Braunschweig during Marquis Wilhelm von Klopstock's assassination attempt against Kaiser Friedrich IV at the Braunschweig estate. Throughout the Imperial Civil War, Ansbach fought with the Lippstadt League nobles against Reinhard von Lohengramm's faction.
During the conflict, Ansbach killed Admiral Ovlesser as he advanced on Braunschweig's position. He later strongly opposed Braunschweig's decision to deploy nuclear weapons against Westerland's civilian population following a rebellion there, advocating only to punish the ringleaders. Braunschweig imprisoned Ansbach after interpreting these objections as defeatism.
After Braunschweig lost most military support and faced capture, Ansbach escaped confinement. He informed Braunschweig that neither alliance with Reinhard nor escape was possible, then coerced his lord into suicide. Ansbach subsequently delivered Braunschweig's body to Reinhard under the pretext of surrender. During this meeting, he attempted to assassinate Reinhard using a concealed laser weapon. The attack failed to kill Reinhard but fatally wounded Siegfried Kircheis. Accounts vary regarding potential involvement from Prince Lichtenlade in this plot.
Ansbach immediately committed suicide by biting a concealed poison capsule after the failed assassination. His final words apologized to Braunschweig, indicating persistent loyalty despite prior disagreements and disillusionment over his lord's actions, particularly concerning Westerland.
Ansbach's characterization emphasizes unwavering service to Braunschweig. He executed questionable commands without objection, maintaining steadfast allegiance for years despite recognizing his lord's tyrannical behavior. This loyalty persisted even through their fundamental moral disagreement over the Westerland atrocity.
