Description
"Code:Breaker" is a supernatural action anime that revolves around a secret organization of individuals with extraordinary abilities, known as Code:Breakers, who operate outside the law to eliminate criminals deemed irredeemable by society. The story centers on Sakura Sakurakōji, a high school student with a strong sense of justice, who encounters Rei Ōgami, a mysterious transfer student and one of the Code:Breakers. Rei possesses the ability to manipulate blue flames that incinerate anything they touch, leaving no trace of the target. Initially, Sakura is horrified by Rei's ruthless methods, but as she learns more about the Code:Breakers and their mission, she becomes entangled in their world.

The Code:Breakers are part of a larger system overseen by the enigmatic Eden, a powerful organization that assigns them targets to eliminate. Each Code:Breaker has a unique ability, such as controlling ice, manipulating time, or summoning weapons. Rei, along with his fellow Code:Breakers—Toki, Heike, and Yukihina—operates under the directive of Eden, but their loyalty is tested as they uncover darker truths about the organization and its motives. Sakura's presence complicates matters, as her unwavering moral compass and determination to save lives clash with the Code:Breakers' lethal methods.

As the narrative progresses, the series delves into the origins of the Code:Breakers and their connection to Eden. Rei's past is gradually revealed, shedding light on his motivations and the source of his powers. The story explores themes of justice, morality, and the consequences of wielding power, as the characters grapple with their roles in a world where the line between right and wrong is often blurred. The conflict escalates when a rogue faction within Eden emerges, threatening to destabilize the balance of power and forcing the Code:Breakers to confront their own beliefs and allegiances.

The anime balances action-packed sequences with character-driven drama, as the relationships between the Code:Breakers and Sakura evolve. Rei's interactions with Sakura, in particular, highlight the tension between his duty as a Code:Breaker and her influence on his perspective. The series also introduces antagonists with their own agendas, adding layers of complexity to the overarching plot. Through its exploration of ethical dilemmas and the consequences of unchecked power, "Code:Breaker" presents a narrative that intertwines supernatural elements with human struggles, creating a compelling and thought-provoking story.

1God's Great Judgment
Sakura Sakurakoji rides a bus on a rainy night and witnesses blue flames consuming people in a park. The next day at school, she finds no evidence of the incident, but a new transfer student, Rei Ogami, matches the boy she saw standing among the burning victims. Sakura confronts Ogami, but he provides a plausible alibi that does not satisfy her. After school, she returns to the park to mourn a homeless man killed there and encounters Ogami, who discusses his philosophy of punishing evil with fire. The following day, Sakura goes to the same park to visit a stray dog. A gang called G-Falcon attacks another person nearby, and Sakura intervenes using her martial arts skills. The gang members subdue her with a taser and severely injure the stray dog that attempts to protect her. Ogami arrives and declares the dog beyond saving, killing it with his blue flames. He then gives the gang members a choice: surrender or die. When they attack, Ogami burns them all to death with his flames. He walks toward the horrified Sakura and directs the fire at her, ending the episode with her facing his judgment.
2The Spiral Blue Flower - Blossoming in Flame
Sakura Sakurakouji awakens in her bedroom the morning after Rei Ogami’s blue flames engulfed her. She finds no physical injuries but carries the full memory of the attack. At school,Sakura watches Ogami carefully, her fear of him now overt. When her friend Aoba tries to approach, Sakura deliberately keeps distance, hoping to shield her from Ogami’s notice. Aoba misreads the avoidance as rejection and grows visibly hurt. Ogami notices Sakura’s changed behavior and begins following her through the school hallways without explanation. The silent pursuit increases Sakura’s anxiety but also confirms her suspicion that he intends to stay close. Unable to tolerate the uncertainty, Sakura confronts Ogami directly and demands an explanation for what happened in the park. Ogami does not deny his actions and offers no apology, forcing Sakura to accept that she now shares a secret with a killer who does not hide his nature. The confrontation ends without resolution, leaving Sakura to decide how to exist alongside someone who burned her without consequence. Ogami’s continued presence at school establishes that his mission overrides any attempt she makes to push him away.
3Episode 3
Rei Ogami tracks a target to a warehouse, but another Code:Breaker, Toki, intercepts and eliminates the target first with a sonic blast. Toki states he acts to prevent Rei from becoming weak due to the presence of Sakurakoji Sakura. Sakurakoji follows Rei and witnesses the confrontation, learning that Code:Breakers receive orders from an organization called Eden. Toki reveals a past mission where Rei executed their fellow Code:Breaker, Yuuki, for betraying Eden. Rei claims the execution followed Eden’s law and shows no regret. Toki attacks Rei with sound waves, forcing Rei to counter with his blue flames. During the fight, Sakurakoji tries to intervene, and Toki momentarily shifts his focus to her. Rei protects Sakurakoji and declares that Toki now qualifies as an enemy under Eden’s rules. Toki withdraws, stating their next encounter will be a fight to the death. Rei then informs Sakurakoji that he will kill Toki before Toki kills him. The episode closes with Eden monitoring both Code:Breakers and preparing to intervene.
4A Woman's Resolve
Sakura trails Ogami to a warehouse district at night. Ogami locates a man named Kuraki, who runs a human trafficking ring. He ignites his blue flame to execute Kuraki. Sakura steps between Ogami and the target, spreading her arms to shield the criminal. Ogami's flame cannot harm an innocent person, so it dissipates. Kuraki escapes into the darkness. Ogami tells Sakura that protecting evil makes her an accomplice. Sakura admits she does not condone Kuraki's crimes. She argues that killing him would still be murder. Ogami insists his duty as a Code:Breaker is to erase evil completely without exception. Sakura declares she will stop Ogami every time he attempts a killing. She proposes to become his leash. Ogami accepts the challenge without changing his expression. Later, Sakura learns that Ogami belongs to an organization called Eden, which monitors his actions. A young man named Yuuki appears and warns Sakura that interfering with a Code:Breaker carries consequences. The episode ends with Ogami receiving a new target via his phone. Sakura resolves to follow him again despite the risk.
5Banquet of Wishes
Ogami,Toki, and Sakura infiltrate a government research facility to locate Diet member Tabata. Two large guards with special abilities intercept them inside the building. The guards retreat when the backpacks strapped to their bodies run out of power. Inside the lower levels, the group discovers rooms filled with bedridden children hooked to monitoring machines. A secret room reveals children preserved in large jars after organ removal. Toki confronts Tabata, exposing him as the facility head who harvests children's organs. The two guards return, and their backpacks open to reveal children providing their abilities. Ogami and Toki kill the guards, allowing the children inside the packs to finally rest. Tabata's crippled daughter Chisa appears, and Sakura learns Tabata performed the experiments to find organ transplants for her. Ogami moves to kill Tabata, and Sakura attempts to stop him with her no-killing stance. Tabata instead attacks Ogami with a scalpel, forcing Ogami to incinerate him. Ogami then tells Chisa to grow up hating him and seek revenge, giving her a reason to live. Toki overhears a phone conversation revealing that fellow Code:Breaker Hitomi (Code:01) orchestrated the entire research project and now has information on their activities.
6Her Decision
Eden holds Sakura Sakurakouji in a sealed facility, demanding information about Rei Ogami’s flames and his status as a Code:Breaker. Rei infiltrates the compound, disabling guards with his blue flames and bypassing security systems. Inside, Sakura refuses to answer the interrogators, asserting her loyalty to Rei. The organization’s representatives explain to Sakura that Code:Breakers are tools for eliminating evil and that her association with Rei puts her life at risk. Rei reaches the interrogation room, confronting the Eden agents. He offers Sakura a choice: remain in Eden’s protection or leave with him, knowing the danger that accompanies her. Sakura chooses to leave with Rei, rejecting Eden’s offer of safety. As they escape, Rei’s flames consume the facility’s defenses, and they exit through the building’s upper levels. The episode closes with Sakura reaffirming her commitment to witnessing Rei’s actions and holding him accountable. Eden’s leadership, observing from afar, orders the activation of a new Code:Breaker to capture Rei.
7Sakura in the Light
Ogami lies unconscious after pushing his abilities past their limit, his body unresponsive in the aftermath of the previous confrontation. Heike and Kanda use this downtime to explain the Code:Breaker organization to Sakura, detailing their roles and the structure of the group while Ogami remains unable to participate. Concerned about further attacks, Sakura offers her family home as a temporary shelter where the injured Ogami can recover in safety. The remaining Code:Breakers converge at Sakura's residence, transforming the location into an impromptu gathering point for the scattered members. Sakura's invitation reveals her connection to a yakuza household, placing the gathering within a compound protected by family influence. Toki arrives at the house in a state of Lost, his own powers depleted from earlier battles, adding another recovering fighter to the group. The assembled Code:Breakers find themselves in an unguarded moment of ceasefire, their forces weakened and their strongest members sidelined. Hitomi makes an uninvited appearance at the house, bringing the enemy directly into their sanctuary. He demonstrates the full scope of his abilities during the encounter, confirming his status as a former Code:Breaker who has turned against the organization. The confrontation ends with Hitomi abducting the Prime Minister, escalating his campaign from targeted attacks to direct political hostage-taking. The Code:Breakers must now organize a response while two of their members remain incapacitated from their injuries.
8King and Soldier - Child and House
Toki leaves the other Code:Breakers as they debate rescuing his father, the Prime Minister, from Hitomi. None of the members except Ōgami demonstrate willingness to kill their former leader. Toki visits Nenene, who briefly recognizes him before her memory reverts, leaving her unaware of his identity. At the Kizakura residence, Sakura finds Ōgami looking through her family photo album. Sakura’s adoptive parents explain they found her covered in blood on their doorstep years ago and later adopted her. Yūki and Rui recall Hitomi’s past benevolence before he became a rogue Code:Breaker. Kanda meets with fellow Eden supporters at the school, agreeing to use her former connection to Hitomi for a potential assassination attempt. Rui meets Heike at a bridge and attacks her when she deduces his involvement in Hitomi’s scheme. Yūki witnesses Heike retaliating from a distance as Rui struggles to prevent the bridge from collapsing. Heike approaches Sakura and deceives her into following him to Hitomi’s hideout. Inside, Heike finds the Prime Minister held hostage and offers Sakura to Hitomi as a gesture of loyalty, completing his betrayal of the Code:Breakers.
9Episode 9
Rei Ogami receives a mission from Eden to eliminate Kanda,a former Code:Breaker who fled the organization. Sakura Sakurakouji tracks Rei to the abandoned building where Kanda hides, intending to stop the execution. Kanda tells Rei that he left Eden after discovering the organization uses its agents’ families as hostages to ensure obedience. Rei’s hand trembles as he raises his blue flame, but he does not strike immediately. Sakura positions herself between Rei and Kanda, insisting that killing solves nothing and that Rei must choose his own path. The confrontation forces Rei to recall the night Eden made him burn his parents and younger sister to prove his worth as a Code:Breaker. Overwhelmed by the memory, Rei lowers his flame, and Kanda escapes through a window. Yuuki Tenpouin, Eden’s supervisor, appears and rebukes Rei for his hesitation, declaring that such failure will not be tolerated. Yuuki then reveals that Rei’s next assignment will be to eliminate Sakura if he continues to disobey orders. Rei grabs Sakura and orders her to leave him, warning that he will become her enemy. Sakura refuses, stating that she will stay by his side regardless of the danger. Meanwhile, Heike Masaomi, another Code:Breaker, watches from a rooftop and decides to test Rei’s commitment to his new path.
10The World People See
Eden inaugurates Hitomi as Code:Breaker 06 at age sixteen. Heike serves as his senior officer during these early years. Hitomi rises through the ranks after each mission, but his promotions follow the deaths of his comrades. Code:Breaker 05, his partner, dies during an operation, and Hitomi watches the partner's watch stop at the exact moment of death. Years later, Hitomi leads a mission as Code:Breaker 03 where a rogue supernatural kills his entire squad. Hitomi alone survives and reports the incident to Heike. Eden assigns Hitomi to train the next generation of Code:Breakers, including Ogami, Toki, Yūki, and Rui. During a rescue mission, Hitomi carries a child to safety and later tells Ogami their purpose is protecting the powerless, not simply executing the wicked. Hitomi finally tracks down and kills the rogue supernatural who murdered his former squad, completing his personal vendetta. Heike reveals to Hitomi that Code:Breakers die from overusing their powers, a fact Eden intentionally concealed. Hitomi vows to take revenge against Eden for this deception. In the present, Hitomi broadcasts from Sky Tower, announcing he will kill the Prime Minister and fifty thousand civilians across Japan. The other Code:Breakers must now stop him before his plan claims thousands of lives.
11God's Judgment
Rei Ogami confronts Hitomi, the former Code:Breaker 01, who aims to eliminate the Eden organization. Hitomi’s power to manifest his imagination into reality forces Rei to defend against a barrage of lethal constructs. Sakura Sakurakouji attempts to intervene but finds her physical attacks cannot disrupt Hitomi’s creations. Toki Fujiwara, Code:Breaker 04, arrives and counters with his ability to erase any matter he touches, creating a standoff between creation and erasure. Rei experiences flashbacks of his training under Hitomi, revealing that Hitomi deliberately isolated and manipulated Rei to forge him into a ruthless Code:Breaker. Hitomi declares his goal to destroy the Code:Breaker system itself, viewing it as a corrupt institution that dehumanizes its members. Rei rejects Hitomi’s vision, asserting that he will define his own justice rather than follow Hitomi’s path of annihilation. Hitomi responds by summoning a fragment of the original Code:Breaker, a primordial entity whose power dwarfs all current Code:Breakers. Sakura reaffirms her commitment to stay with Rei, recognizing that her presence provides him with an alternative to becoming a pure executioner. The episode closes with the fragment awakening, setting the stage for a confrontation that could unravel the entire Code:Breaker hierarchy.
12God's Judgment
Rei Ogami confronts Fujiwara in the Eden headquarters. Fujiwara reveals that Rei’s grandfather, the original Code:Breaker Number 1, created the Eden organization and passed the blue flames to Rei. Fujiwara orders Rei to accept his role as the new “God” and execute humanity’s judgment. Rei rejects the command and attacks Fujiwara with his flames. Fujiwara counters using the same flame type, demonstrating superior control. Sakura Sakurakouji attempts to intervene, but Fujiwara restrains her. Rei’s anger causes his flames to expand uncontrollably, threatening to consume him. Sakura breaks free and calls out to Rei, reminding him of his promise not to kill. Rei’s flames begin to subside momentarily, but Fujiwara provokes him again, causing Rei’s power to erupt in a massive explosion that destroys the surrounding area. The episode closes with Rei standing amid the destruction, his eyes empty, as Sakura watches helplessly, her determination to stop him clashing with Eden’s plan for a divine judgment.
13A Flower Blooming with God
Rei Ogami removes the ring from his left hand during the final confrontation with Hitomi. The removal unlocks the full scope of his abilities, astounding Heike who watches the battle. Ogami speaks with a dual voice, signaling an awakened or altered state of his power. Hitomi reveals his motivation for the mass destruction plan: he swore vengeance against the Prime Minister. He claims the government secretly mistreated people with supernatural abilities and that sacrificing ordinary citizens is justified to protect his kind. Heike discloses that his apparent betrayal of the Code:Breakers was a deception, as he worked from inside Hitomi's faction to undermine the plan. Sakura Sakurakouji, having observed the entire conflict, bids farewell to Ogami as the immediate crisis subsides. The Prime Minister remains in power despite Hitomi's failed uprising. Ogami's newly awakened power and his unclear relationship with Sakura leave fundamental questions unanswered. The series ends with the Code:Breakers' future uncertain and the political forces that control them still intact.
