Description
Masaomi Heike, known by the codename Code:02, is a member of the secret organization Eden and serves as a judge who grades the performance of other Code:Breakers. He is also one of the Four Founders of Eden, historically referred to as Heike Masaomi the Wonder. In public, he maintains the cover of a student council secretary at Kibou High School, where he is a classmate of Sakura Sakurakouji. Despite his formal role, he often behaves eccentrically, such as setting up a table in the middle of a hallway to drink tea and openly reading books that depict bondage imagery.
Heike’s personal motto is a variation of the Code of Hammurabi: instead of evil for evil, he substitutes the phrase “and eternal shackles for the evil.” He generally avoids killing his targets, stating that life is precious, and prefers to restrain and punish them using a whip. When initiating a punishment, he often remarks that a “naughty boy needs to be punished.”
His true age is over one hundred years old. Born during the Meiji era, he enlisted in the Imperial Army while concealing his supernatural ability. At that time, the government secretly exploited power users for national crises, but later shifted to a purge of those deemed rebellious. During this period, Heike encountered the being known as the Code:Emperor, who used flames to protect fellow power users. Inspired by the Emperor’s strength, Heike joined him and two others to found Eden, an independent organization dedicated to the research and oversight of special powers.
Heike possesses the ability to manipulate light. His Lost form—the state a Code:Breaker enters when their power is temporarily depleted—is never shown openly; he always conceals it beneath a full-body metal armor. Others who have glimpsed it describe it as “something incredible.” Despite his usual composed and just demeanor, Heike harbors a berserk side. Another Code:Breaker, Yukihina, compares this rage to that of a mad dog, a stark contrast to Heike’s everyday behavior.
Within the story, Heike acts as an overseer of the other Code:Breakers, evaluating their missions. He is the most loyal member of Eden and maintains close ties with figures such as Prime Minister Fujiwara.
