Subaru Kimura

Description
Subaru Kimura is a Japanese actor, voice actor, and rapper. He was born Subaru Samuel Bartsch on June 29, 1990, in Blankenburg, Germany, to a German father, who was a former opera singer, and a Japanese mother. He lived in Germany until the age of seven, making him fluent in German, and was raised in Japan from childhood. He is currently affiliated with the talent agency Atomic Monkey.

Kimura began his career as a child actor, appearing in television programs and the Broadway musical Annie in 2002. His career-defining role came at the age of 14 when he was selected from a pool of over 600 applicants to become the new voice of Takeshi "Gian" Gōda in the long-running and beloved anime series Doraemon in 2005. He succeeded the late Kazuya Tatekabe and became the second actor to voice the iconic character, a role he continues to hold to this day. This high-profile debut as a middle school student launched his career in voice acting.

While the Doraemon role made him a household name, Kimura has since built an extensive and diverse portfolio across anime, video games, and live-action television. His voice work demonstrates considerable range, from intense and powerful characters to more comedic and quirky roles. Some of his most notable anime roles include the eccentric and intuitive Satori Tendō in Haikyu!!, the boisterous and powerful Aoi Tōdō in Jujutsu Kaisen, the hot-headed Ryōma Terasaka in the Assassination Classroom series, and the complex and passionate Kanba Takakura in Mawaru Penguindrum. He has also taken on roles in critically acclaimed series such as Issa Matsumoto in March Comes in like a Lion, the laid-back Gōda in The Way of the Househusband, Haruki "Pah-chin" Hayashida in Tokyo Revengers, and the villainous Pesci in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind.

In addition to his anime work, Kimura has a significant presence in other media. He has voiced numerous characters in video games, including Balthus in Fire Emblem: Three Houses and Beat in The World Ends with You. He has also appeared in tokusatsu productions, most notably providing the voice for the demon Vice in Kamen Rider Revice, a role that also involved live-action appearances and singing. His filmography includes voice roles in major animated films like The First Slam Dunk, where he voiced the protagonist Hanamichi Sakuragi, and Jujutsu Kaisen 0, reprising his role as Aoi Tōdō.

A notable aspect of Kimura's career is his deep involvement in music, particularly rap. A self-professed hip-hop enthusiast since elementary school, he formed a hip-hop group with friends in high school. This passion is central to his role as Ichiro Yamada, the leader of the Buster Bros!!!, in the massively popular mixed-media project Hypnosis Mic -Division Rap Battle-. In addition to voicing the character, he has also contributed lyrics for the project's songs under the pen name Kōra Bintarō. He is also a member of the musical projects IDOLiSH7, voicing Tōma Inumaru, and ACTORS, showcasing his singing and rapping talents. His versatility extends to his skills as a narrator, Beatboxer, and his ability to play multiple instruments.

Beyond voice acting and music, Kimura has expanded his career into live-action television and film. He has appeared in NHK taiga dramas such as The 13 Lords of the Shogun and What Will You Do, Ieyasu? and starred in the television drama Maybe Koi ga Kikoeru. He also served as the main MC for the long-running children's television program Oha Suta from 2020.
