Description
The character in question is named Haruki Hayashida, not Haruka. He is widely known by his nickname Pah-chin. A founding member of the Tokyo Manji Gang, he holds the position of Captain of its Third Division. In the events leading up to the Christmas Showdown arc, he is serving time in a juvenile detention center, having been absent from the main narrative following a critical incident that occurred before the series' primary timeline. His absence is a direct result of his fierce loyalty and explosive temper, which set earlier gang conflicts into motion.

Born on February 24, 1991, Haruki is a young man of short and stocky build, standing 164 centimeters tall and weighing 80 kilograms. His most distinctive feature is his bleached blond hair styled into a mohawk, with the sides of his head shaved. He has sharp, slanted eyes and bears a small scar under his left eye as well as a stitch on his lower lip. He is typically seen wearing the standard Tokyō Manji uniform: a long black coat with gold embroidery over a matching black shirt and pants. Despite his short stature, his dense physique gives him an imposing and powerful presence.

Haruki's personality is defined by a volatile mix of extreme impulsivity, a short fuse, and unwavering loyalty. He is quick to anger and often acts before thinking, a trait he himself acknowledges by frequently calling himself dumb or not smart. This lack of intellectual pretension is not a source of shame but rather a point of pride; he prefers to solve problems with his fists rather than his head. His friend and vice-captain, Ryouhei Hayashi, once famously remarked that Pah-chin's brain is dried up, a sentiment that encapsulates his simple, direct nature. Behind this brutish exterior, however, rests a deeply caring and protective heart. For his friends and comrades, he is willing to cross any line and risk his life without a moment's hesitation. While his initial reactions may seem like senseless aggression, they often stem from a place of deep frustration over perceived wrongs against those he holds dear.

Haruki's primary motivation is the protection and defense of his friends, and this drive is the catalyst for the most significant event in his backstory. Before the formation of the Tokyo Manji Gang, his close friend and that friend's girlfriend were brutally assaulted by members of a rival gang called Moebius. The attack was so severe that the victim was left unconscious on the side of a road. Consumed by rage, Haruki was initially held back by his loyalty to Toman, fearing he would drag his new gang into a losing war against a more established group. However, after receiving authorization from Mikey, the founder and leader of Toman, Haruki's pent-up fury was unleashed. This set him on a direct collision course with Moebius's leader, Nobutaka Osanai. In their ensuing fight, Haruki was completely outmatched and knocked unconscious. After regaining his senses, he was so blinded by rage that he stabbed Osanai with a knife. He then took full responsibility for his actions, surrendering to the police and being sent to a juvenile detention center. This incident, known as the 8.3 Conflict, was a pivotal moment that threatened to tear Toman apart and ultimately paved the way for darker forces to manipulate the gang.

Within the structure of the Tokyo Manji Gang, Haruki serves as a special attack captain, a role that suits his direct and forceful fighting style. He is recognized as one of Toman's most formidable and feared fighters, with an exceptional level of raw power and physical resilience. His endurance is legendary; he has survived devastating kicks from Mikey and, after being knocked out by Osanai, he stood back up to continue the fight. Even in the face of overwhelming odds, he refuses to stay down. In later conflicts, he proves capable of single-handedly tearing through swathes of enemy fighters to reach a target. His physical strength is his primary asset, making him a devastating brawler.

Haruki's most significant relationship is with his vice-captain and best friend, Ryouhei Hayashi, known as Peh-yan. The two are almost always together, sharing an inseparable bond forged through shared hardship and mutual support. Haruki had even run away from his wealthy family's home to stay with Peh-yan after a dispute with his parents, highlighting the depth of their trust. He also shares a strong, if complicated, loyalty to the gang's leader, Manjiro Sano (Mikey). This loyalty is tested in different future timelines; in some, he is executed on Mikey's orders, while in others, he fights desperately against his former leader in a final attempt to restore his smile.

Haruki's character shows a notable development across different timelines. After being released from the detention center, he returns to his position as a Toman executive but appears somewhat changed, still prone to outbursts but also showing a degree of discipline. In the most positive future timelines, he matures considerably; he abandons his blond mohawk for a more refined black hairstyle and takes over his family's real estate business, becoming a wealthy and successful businessman. In this life, he marries his childhood friend, though even at his own wedding he remains true to his clumsy, straightforward nature by embarrassing himself during the speech. This final version of Haruki represents a man who has found peace, replacing his role as a gang enforcer with that of a stable family man and entrepreneur, while still retaining the core of his loyal and unpretentious personality.
