Description
Masaomi Heike is a Code:Breaker assigned the codename Code:02, known within the organization as Heike Masaomi the Wonder. He also serves as the judge who grades the performance of other Code:Breakers. He is one of the Four Founders of Eden, the secret organization that oversees the Code:Breakers. To the outside world, he appears as the student council secretary at Kibou High School, where he is a classmate of Sakura Sakurakoji. His behavior is often eccentric and unpredictable, such as setting up a table in the middle of a hallway to drink tea for no apparent reason, and he is frequently seen carrying a book with a bondage-themed cover.
Heike’s personality is outwardly calm, composed, and just, but he harbors a hidden berserk side that other characters, such as Yukihina, describe as being akin to a mad dog. Despite his violent potential, he does not prefer killing his targets and states that life is precious. He follows a version of the Code of Hammurabi, but instead of an eye for an eye, he replaces it with the principle of placing eternal shackles upon the evil.
His notable ability is the manipulation of light. He uses this power in combat and for other purposes. When his power is temporarily lost due to overuse, he enters a form known as the Lost form. Heike always conceals this form beneath a full-body metal armor, and others who have glimpsed it describe it as something incredible. The exact appearance of his Lost form is not revealed.
Heike’s background is long and storied. He was born in the Meiji era, making him over one hundred years old. During his youth, he enlisted in the Imperial Army while concealing his special power. At that time, the Japanese government secretly conducted a project to exploit the abilities of power users, viewing them as assets during times of crisis. However, as imperialism grew, the Imperial Army began a relentless purge of power users deemed harmful or rebellious. During this purge, Heike encountered the individual known as the Code:Emperor, who used flames to protect fellow power users. Impressed by the Emperor’s strength, Heike joined him, and together with two others, they founded Eden, an independent organization dedicated to the research of special powers.
In his role within the story, Heike acts as both a judge and a mentor figure to the other Code:Breakers, though his interactions are often marked by his unusual sense of humor and hidden ferocity. His key relationships include a respectful yet distant connection with Rei Ogami, a fellow Code:Breaker, and a more wary dynamic with Yukihina, who recognizes Heike’s dangerous potential. He is also one of the few Code:Breakers who remains loyal to Eden’s original mission and maintains connections with figures like Prime Minister Fujiwara. Throughout the series, Heike undergoes little visible change in his demeanor, but his hidden past and his inner savage side gradually come to light, revealing the depth of his experience and the weight of his centuries-long involvement in the world of power users.
