Description
Fujimaki is a supporting character in the Angel Beats! narrative, serving as a prominent member of the Afterlife Battlefront, also known as the SSS. He is visually distinguished by his black hair, which is often mistaken for a shade of dark green, and his black eyes. He typically wears the standard SSS school uniform and is almost always seen carrying a shirasaya, a type of traditional Japanese sword with a plain wooden scabbard.

His personality is initially characterized by a snobbish and confrontational demeanor, particularly towards newcomers. He is shown picking on the protagonist, Otonashi, shortly after he joins the organization, though the specific reason for this animosity is not explained. As the story progresses, this antagonistic behavior noticeably decreases. Despite this rough exterior, Fujimaki proves himself to be one of the most reliable fighters in the group, alongside his comrade Noda. However, his tough bravado hides a significant and comedic weakness: he is unable to swim and can drown very easily, a fact that is played for humor on several occasions.

Fujimaki's motivations evolve over the course of the series. While he initially appears content to simply be a brawler, as the narrative moves towards its conclusion, he reveals a deeper longing. He expresses a desire to be remembered by his comrades when they all eventually disappear from the afterlife, rather than being someone who is easily forgotten. This reflects a common thread within the group, a yearning for connection and a meaningful existence even in their limbo-like world.

His role in the story is primarily that of a supporting combatant and a source of comic relief. He participates in many of the SSS's operations against Angel and later the student council president. He is involved in the Guild descent operation, where his inability to swim is first exposed after falling into a water trap, and he joins in the baseball match during the ball tournament. He is also part of the group that fights against the duplicate Angels, helping to hold them off so his allies can escape. In the final conflict against the mysterious shadows, he is seen fighting valiantly, using both his sword and a firearm simultaneously to protect his friends. Earlier in the series, he is shown using a PPSh-41 submachine gun in heavy combat situations.

Key relationships define his place within the SSS. He appears to be good friends with Oyama, a fellow member, and the two are often seen together. In the series' opening and ending animations, they are frequently depicted side-by-side, suggesting a close bond. According to supplementary character commentaries, the two became close through playing tabletop role-playing games, with Fujimaki unilaterally clinging to Oyama. He also shares a rivalry and mutual respect with Noda, who is another reliable front-line fighter.

Notable abilities include his proficiency with his shirasaya sword, which he wields as his primary weapon. In more intense firefights, he also employs a PPSh-41 submachine gun. He is noted as being the only member of the SSS who consistently fights using both a sword and a gun at the same time, showcasing his aggressive and versatile combat style. While he presents as a hardened delinquent, hints of a more complex past exist. He once claimed to have been a member of the yakuza, though it is revealed this tenure lasted only a single day. The story of that day, the details of which are never fully disclosed, is implied to be profoundly tragic, as those who heard it, including Oyama and Hinata, were moved to tears.
