Rob Mungle
Description
Rob Mungle is an American voice actor with a career spanning over two decades, known for his extensive work in English dubs of anime series. He is frequently credited under his full name, Robert L. Mungle. In addition to his voice acting work, Mungle is also a stand-up comedian, often performing under the stage name "The Reverend".
Mungle's entry into voice acting occurred by chance in the mid-1990s while he was performing stand-up comedy in his native Houston, Texas. A former high school classmate, whose boyfriend was starting an anime localization company, approached him and suggested he audition. Unfamiliar with the medium, Mungle agreed and landed his first role in the series Guy: Double Target, beginning what would become a prolific career.
Since that initial role, Mungle has become a familiar voice in English dubs, contributing to hundreds of anime productions. He has worked extensively with Sentai Filmworks, the studio responsible for many of his most prominent roles. A significant portion of his filmography is concentrated in the late 2000s and throughout the 2010s, where he consistently provided voices for a wide range of characters.
Mungle's voice roles are diverse, often portraying authority figures, villains, or eccentric characters. Among his most recognized performances is Ragnar, the loyal and protective retainer to Prince Canute in the first season of the epic historical anime Vinland Saga. He also voiced the cunning and boastful chef Subaru Mimasaka in the popular culinary series Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma: The Fourth Plate. Another notable role is Amanojaku, a mischievous and powerful spirit, in the cult-classic supernatural series Ghost Stories. His extensive filmography also includes characters such as Guile in the ADV Films dub of Street Fighter II V, Dutch in Halo Legends, J.D. Morrison in Devil May Cry: The Animated Series, Kazuyuki Izumi in Parasyte -the maxim-, and Hajime Saitou in Peacemaker Kurogane.
In addition to his work in anime, Mungle has voiced characters in video games, such as Basil Galeos and Edel in Unlimited Saga. Beyond his voice acting and comedy career, Mungle is also a chef and restaurant owner.
