Yulian was Logan's older brother. Their father perished fighting the Gaia Sanction's initial invasion of Earth, defending his family and home. After Earth's surrender and their mother's death, the brothers were separated. Yulian joined the Gaia Sanction forces. He rose to become a commander overseeing Earth operations and hunted dissidents, including the space pirate Captain Harlock. He embraced the Gaia Sanction's ideology, believing humanity's submission was essential for survival and order. His primary motivation was protecting his younger brother, Logan, whom he believed lived safely under Gaia Sanction rule on Earth. He remained unaware Logan had actually stowed away aboard Harlock's ship, the Arcadia. Yulian eventually confronted the Arcadia directly. During this encounter, he discovered Logan aboard the pirate vessel. Consumed by the conviction that Harlock endangered Logan and defied necessary order, Yulian ordered a full assault on the Arcadia, prioritizing his brother's capture above all else. He boarded the Arcadia and located Logan. A violent confrontation erupted between the brothers. Yulian expressed his desire to save Logan from what he saw as Harlock's destructive path, reiterating his belief that submission was the only way to ensure Logan's survival. Logan rejected Yulian's perspective and ideology. This rejection, coupled with witnessing Logan's resolve to fight alongside Harlock for Earth's freedom, deeply shook Yulian's convictions. He realized his brother had chosen a different path. In the battle's final moments, as the Gaia Sanction flagship prepared to fire its main cannon directly at the Arcadia bridge where Logan stood, Yulian acted. He used his own command ship to physically interpose itself, intercepting the massive cannon blast meant for the Arcadia. This self-sacrifice destroyed his ship and killed him, but successfully shielded the Arcadia and saved Logan's life. His final act demonstrated a rejection of his former allegiance and a reaffirmation of his love for his brother.
