Description
Dumas Schuramux initially appears as a respected and powerful figure in the world of Kiba. He is a former Shard Champion of Templer, a title signifying the strongest Shard Caster in the country, though despite this prestigious honor, he worked quietly as a farmer. In this capacity, he takes on the role of a mentor to the protagonist, Zed, responsible for training him and helping him harness his abilities. At the beginning of the story, Dumas embodies the archetype of a silent and stoic warrior, known for his gruff exterior but also for his underlying sense of honor.

Beneath this surface of respectability lies a deep-seated obsession tied to his family lineage. Dumas bears a cross-like mark on his left palm, an inherited symbol of servitude that has been passed down through his family for generations. His primary motivation is to change what he perceives as this inescapable destiny. He believed that becoming the Shard Champion would grant him the power and status necessary to break free from this predetermined role. However, he found that the title brought only useless honor and the burden of being the first called upon in times of trouble, offering no real change to his station. This disillusionment turns his initial ambition into a consuming madness.

Driven by this obsession, Dumas abandons his honorable path and becomes a traitor. He serves as a spy, known as the Joker, for the usurpers of the country of Jimoto, led by the villainous Hugh. His betrayal is motivated by a desperate bargain: his service in exchange for marriage to Princess Rebecca, the deposed heir to Jimoto's throne. This transformation is drastic; he shifts from being a noble mentor to a cackling and deranged villain, appearing as a shadow of his former self. His actions include attacking his former allies and slaughtering his own countrymen who attempted to revolt.

His role in the story is that of a fallen hero whose actions directly impact the main characters' journey. His relationship with the protagonist, Zed, is particularly significant, as he begins as a teacher before becoming an adversary. His key relationships are defined by his manipulation: he is a pawn for Hugh, who has no intention of honoring their bargain, and his betrayal deeply affects those who trusted him in Templer.

The character's arc concludes with his final confrontation. He engages in a duel with the former Shard Champion, Robès, a battle that remains largely even until Zed intervenes. Armed with his newly controlled spirit, Rambos, Zed is able to easily overpower the exhausted Dumas. After his defeat, he is executed by Glaudio, one of Hugh's subordinates, who shocks and strangles Dumas before throwing his body into the fire pits surrounding the Zymot jousting ring. His fate serves as an illustration of his tragic motivation, where his efforts to change his destiny end in complete ruin, having gained nothing from his betrayal.

As a Shard Caster, Dumas draws his power from an aqua-colored crystal on his right shoulder. His shard element is earth, requiring six shards to activate his abilities. His weapon is a notably wide brownish-orange sword, which is about twice the width of a standard blade used by other casters like Zed. His spirit, Suraguna, is of the earth element and proves to be a formidable opponent, defeating Belladonna, the spirit of the Shard Champion Robès, during their duel.
