Description
Hisako Fuchita is a secondary character in Angel Beats!, known for her role as the deputy leader and lead guitarist of the band Girls Dead Monster. She is a founding member of the band, having formed it alongside her close friend and band leader, Masami Iwasawa. Her primary role within the Afterlife Battlefront is to serve as a distraction, using the band's performances to draw the attention of other students and NPCs away from the front's operations.

In terms of appearance, Hisako has long brown hair typically tied in a ponytail with bangs hanging over her forehead and gray eyes. She wears the standard school uniform but often rolls her sleeves up to her elbows, similar to Iwasawa. Hisako is frequently seen carrying her signature instrument, a Fender Jazzmaster guitar.

Hisako has a candid and straightforward personality. She is often calm and appears expressionless, but she has a quick temper and can easily become irritated, a trait that causes the younger members of the band to fear her slightly. She is strict about musical practice and is often shown being frustrated with Yui, who replaced Iwasawa as the band's vocalist, likely due to Yui's lack of skill or disruptive behavior. When she is not involved with music, she enjoys playing mahjong, where she possesses incredible luck and is known to be an avid, cheating gambler who almost never loses.

Her motivations in the afterlife are deeply intertwined with her past. Before arriving, Hisako was a talented guitarist who moved to the city to pursue a professional music career. She joined a band called Blood the Beautiful, whose mentally unstable vocalist, Kirisaki, was prone to suicidal behavior. Hisako was forced into the role of his guardian, a responsibility that isolated her and made her a target for his obsessive fans. The harassment culminated in a fan burning down her parents' house, which led Hisako to quit the band and return home. Shortly after, she witnessed Kirisaki commit suicide with a pistol during a live television interview. Overwhelmed by guilt for leaving him, Hisako arrived in the afterlife with a lingering attachment to her band days. This guilt manifested as a ghost she would see behind Iwasawa during performances, and her mental state had become so unstable that she had been confined to a hospital room. Music, and specifically her bond with Iwasawa, became the means through which she began to confront this trauma.

Hisako's most significant relationship is with Masami Iwasawa, her best friend and musical partner. Unlike others, Iwasawa was the only member who fully met Hisako's high expectations as a musician. Hisako was often the more outspoken decision-maker of the two, with Iwasawa following her lead. After Iwasawa finds peace and disappears, Hisako is left behind, saddened by the loss. She continues on with the band, stating that there was no replacement for Iwasawa's vocals. Her other key relationships include the other members of Girls Dead Monster: she often has to correct the mischievous Shiori Sekine, sometimes with violence, and she is irritated by Yui's lack of discipline.

Hisako has several notable abilities. Her primary talent is her extraordinary skill as a lead guitarist. She also possesses an unnatural aptitude for games of chance and luck-based competitions, such as mahjong, where she is said to cheat to secure victories. Additionally, she is noted to be athletic. Her character develops primarily through her acceptance of Iwasawa's departure. While she remains resentful and sad, she agrees with Otonashi's plan to find peace, acknowledging that she genuinely enjoyed her time in the band Girls Dead Monster.
