Lynn
Description
Lynn is a Japanese voice actress born on June 1, 1992, in Yokosuka, Kanagawa Prefecture, and raised in Niigata Prefecture. She is of mixed heritage, with an American father and a Japanese mother, and Lynn is her real given name. Her interest in voice acting began in elementary school after realizing her fondness for characters like Inuyasha and Conan Edogawa was due to the performances of their voice actors.
To pursue this career, Lynn enrolled in the Japan Narration Acting Institute during her first year of high school. For three years, she commuted weekly from Niigata to Tokyo by Shinkansen to attend classes without sacrificing her studies. During this time, she passed an audition and joined the talent agency Arts Vision, with which she remains affiliated. Her professional debut came in 2011 with minor roles in foreign film dubs, and her first anime role was a background character in Naruto: Shippuden in 2012.
For a period, Lynn struggled to secure anime auditions and considered quitting. Her first significant anime role was Maya Kyōdō in the 2014 series Sabagebu! -Survival Game Club!-, a part she earned through audition and which marked her transition to more prominent work. Following this, her career gained momentum throughout the 2010s with a wide variety of roles. She played lead characters such as Nozomi Kaminashi in Keijo!!!!!!!! and Fuuka Akitsuki in Fuuka, the latter of which also allowed her to showcase her singing abilities. She also took on memorable supporting roles like the strict but caring tutor Mafuyu Kirisu in We Never Learn: BOKUBEN and the determined Gilda in The Promised Neverland.
The late 2010s and early 2020s saw Lynn take on more emotionally complex parts. She delivered a critically acclaimed performance as Sakura Yamauchi, a terminally ill teenager, in the film I Want to Eat Your Pancreas. Her filmography continued to expand across many popular series. Some of the many roles she voiced during this period include Princess Hibana in Fire Force, Lillia Greyrat in Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation, Ayano Yugiri in Engage Kiss, and Karin Kudaka in The Aquatope on White Sand. In 2021, she also voiced Misa in the Star Wars: Visions anthology.
A significant milestone in her career came in 2022 when she was cast as Miorine Rembran, one of the two main protagonists, in the critically acclaimed Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch From Mercury. This role brought her widespread recognition and demonstrated her ability to carry a major franchise. She has also been a consistent presence in the Uma Musume Pretty Derby franchise, voicing the horse girl Maruzensky since 2018.
Lynn's talent extends to voicing characters in video games, dubbing foreign media, and performing theme songs. She sang ending themes for her breakthrough series Sabagebu! and has contributed character songs for various projects. In a 2023 interview, she discussed the challenges of voicing a character who "de-ages" in the Junji Ito horror anthology, highlighting her commitment to nuanced performances. Her work continues into the present, with ongoing and upcoming roles in series such as Meiji Gekken: 1874 and the film Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba - Infinity Castle. Known for her versatility and ability to portray strong-willed characters across all genres, Lynn has established herself as a prominent and respected figure in the anime industry.
