Description
In the fantasy world of Earthqualia, every person is born with a divinely assigned class that dictates their path in life. These roles range from the powerful Warrior, Hero, and Sage to the eight eligible combat classes, but the vast majority of the population receives the weakest role of all: Villager. These powerless individuals are expected to live out their days farming or running shops, as venturing out to hunt monsters is typically a death sentence for anyone not blessed with a combat class.
The protagonist, Koji Kagami, is a young man who was assigned the Villager class but discovered an exception to the world's rules. As a two-year-old child, he realized that defeating monsters yields great wealth, and he has since spent two decades relentlessly hunting to raise his level. Through sheer grit and risking his life against far stronger foes, he has achieved the impossible, reaching Level 999, a height that far surpasses even legendary heroes of the past whose levels capped at 450. Despite possessing power that makes him the strongest being in the world, Koji remains a pragmatist more interested in financial gain and survival than traditional heroism.
Koji's solitary existence changes when he has a chance encounter with Alice, the daughter of the Demon Lord. Unlike most humans who view demons as evil monsters to be exterminated, and most demons who reciprocate that hatred, Alice desires coexistence between humans and demons, a goal she inherited from her father. This meeting sets the central conflict in motion, as Koji and Alice join forces to find a way for the two warring races to live in peace, challenging the rigid prejudices and caste systems that govern their world.
Their journey brings them into conflict with the established order, including the traditional Hero's party. The Hero, Rex Nipplesboy, was born with the mission to defeat the Demon King after his parents were killed by demons, leveling up to 90 with that sole goal in mind. Similarly, the Sage Krull Hexaldoria was brainwashed by her father the king into focusing only on the demon threat. After encountering Koji and witnessing his power and different perspective, these characters begin to question their preconceived notions, eventually abandoning their blind hatred and joining Koji's cause. Other notable characters include the physically imposing female fighter Takako Builder, the demon Menow Abrasha who serves Alice, and other party members like Paruna Biore and Tina Bills.
The narrative follows Koji as he uses his overwhelming strength not for conquest, but to protect his new companions and forge a path toward reconciliation. The story explores themes of defining one's own destiny against a rigged system, as Koji breaks the rules everyone else takes for granted simply by refusing to stay in the lane assigned to him at birth. What begins as a pragmatic quest for wealth evolves into a deeper struggle against fate itself, as the level 999 villager and the demon king's daughter attempt to bridge the divide between two worlds that have known only conflict.
