Description
Nariyuki Yuiga, a hardworking and financially struggling high school student, is offered a prestigious college recommendation by his school, provided he tutors two of his academically gifted classmates, Rizu Ogata and Fumino Furuhashi. Despite their brilliance in specific subjects—Rizu excels in mathematics but struggles with literature, while Fumino is a literary prodigy but fails at math—both girls aspire to pursue careers in fields unrelated to their strengths. Rizu dreams of studying humanities, while Fumino aims to become an astronomer. Nariyuki, though initially overwhelmed, dedicates himself to helping them overcome their weaknesses.
As the story progresses, additional characters are introduced, each with their own academic challenges and aspirations. Uruka Takemoto, a talented swimmer, struggles with English despite her athletic prowess. Mafuyu Kirisu, their strict and seemingly perfect teacher, harbors her own insecurities about her teaching abilities and personal life. Later, Asumi Kominami, a former cram school student, joins the group, adding further complexity to the dynamics. The narrative explores their individual growth, academic struggles, and personal relationships, often blending humor, heartfelt moments, and light romantic tension.
The series balances slice-of-life elements with comedic situations, often arising from the characters' contrasting personalities and the challenges they face. Nariyuki’s dedication to his friends and his own academic journey forms the core of the story, while the girls’ determination to pursue their dreams despite their shortcomings adds depth to their characters. The interactions between the cast highlight themes of perseverance, self-discovery, and the importance of supporting one another. The anime adapts the manga faithfully, maintaining its focus on character development and the lighthearted yet meaningful exploration of academic and personal growth.
