Description
Mafuyu Kirisu is a teacher at Ichinose Academy, where she serves as a student counselor and teaches world history. She is a woman in her mid-twenties with long pink hair and green eyes, possessing a slender yet athletic build that stems from her years of training as a competitive figure skater during her youth, a period in which she won numerous awards. At school, she typically wears a professional suit with black stockings and dark red high-heeled shoes, often carrying textbooks or student profiles. In the privacy of her own apartment, however, she prefers to wear a simple tracksuit.

Outwardly, Mafuyu is known for her cold, strict, and frank demeanor, which has earned her a reputation among students as an unsociable "ice queen" and has made her appear overly harsh to her colleagues. She frequently speaks in terse, two-character phrases that reinforce her distant and no-nonsense attitude. Beneath this icy exterior, she genuinely cares for her students' well-being, though she struggles to express this warmth openly. In her private life, Mafuyu is a remarkably messy and clumsy person, completely inept at housework including cleaning and cooking. Her apartment is perpetually in a state of disarray, a secret she is deeply embarrassed about. She is also prone to a variety of personal "blunders," such as being a terrifyingly reckless driver, having a strong fear of cockroaches, and being unable to handle spicy food or alcohol, the latter of which causes her stern personality to reverse into an overly affectionate and complimentary state.

Mafuyu's primary motivation as an educator is rooted in her own past regrets. Having abandoned a promising career in figure skating because she allowed her emotions to sway her from her talent, she firmly believes that people should follow their natural aptitudes and not be misled by their passions. This philosophy drives her to act as a strict guide, intent on steering students toward what she perceives as their correct, talent-appropriate paths. This belief puts her in direct conflict with Nariyuki Yuiga at the beginning of the story, as she disapproves of his methods of encouraging students like Rizu Ogata and Fumino Furuhashi to pursue difficult dreams in fields where they lack natural talent, instead of focusing on their established strengths. She was, in fact, the original tutor for both Rizu and Fumino, but she eventually gave up on trying to change their minds, leading her to keep a close watch on Nariyuki's progress.

Mafuyu's most significant relationship is with Nariyuki Yuiga. Their dynamic begins with substantial ideological conflict but deepens considerably as he inadvertently discovers her embarrassing private side. He frequently ends up cleaning her apartment, helping her with various troubles, and becoming one of the few people who knows her true, vulnerable nature. In return, she cares for him as a teacher, helping him with his studies and even confronting the headmaster on his behalf. Over the course of the series, their bond grows, and it is heavily hinted that she develops deep feelings for him, becoming flustered and conscious around him. Her past is also tied to Nariyuki's late father, Teruaki Yuiga, who was her own teacher at Ichinose Academy and whose educational philosophy greatly influenced her decision to pursue teaching. She also has a younger sister, Miharu Kirisu, who admires her greatly and is a perfectionist with a fear of males, often overreacting to Mafuyu's relationship with Nariyuki.

Throughout the story, Mafuyu experiences significant development. Her rigid stance on talent versus emotion softens as she witnesses Nariyuki's success and as she confronts her own past. She eventually comes to terms with her regrets and acknowledges the value of supporting a student's passion, even if it defies simple logic. A notable ability, aside from her academic knowledge and rigorous discipline, is her athleticism from figure skating, though her most infamous skill is her incredibly reckless driving, which often terrifies her passengers. She also has an unexpectedly good singing voice, though she tends to perform in the enka style.
