The television anime series I'm Looking for Zombie, also known as Zombie Sagashitemasu, is an adaptation of the manga by Katsuwo. The story is set in a world that has been devastated by a mysterious and deadly disease. Thirteen years prior to the start of the narrative, on a day known as the Red Day, this virulent illness swept across the globe, killing approximately ninety percent of the human population. The deceased then reanimate as aggressive zombies, leading to the total collapse of society as the living are forced to flee the ruins of major cities. The surviving humans now reside in isolated villages, holding onto a distant hope of one day reclaiming the lost urban areas. A new generation has grown up in this post-apocalyptic world, with no memories of the time before the Red Day.

The story follows Aki, a girl from one of these survivor villages who has never known the pre-apocalyptic world. Accompanied by her two close friends, Haru and Natsuki, she decides to leave the safety of their home to embark on a journey to find her missing father. Haru is a childhood friend who is obsessed with physical strength and never misses a training session, using a baseball bat and his own muscles as his primary weapons. Natsuki is another close friend who tends to evaluate everything, including the dangers of the post-apocalyptic world, based on whether it is cute or not cute, and she wields a pink bow and arrow. As they venture into the outside world, which is completely overrun by zombies, the trio encounters two other survivors, Yuu and Sakura, whom they rescue from an attack. Yuu possesses extensive knowledge about the outside world but has extremely low athletic ability, while Sakura appears kind-hearted and level-headed, seemingly lacking experience in fighting zombies. After joining forces, this group of five takes refuge in a hardware store, which becomes their base of operations as they regroup and begin to launch a counterattack against the undead.
