TV-Series
Description
Cocoa Hoto is the central protagonist of her story, a vibrant and endlessly energetic teenage girl who moves from a secluded mountainous region to a lively, European-inspired town to begin high school. She stands 154 cm tall with shoulder-length strawberry blonde or orange hair, bright purple eyes, and is rarely seen without her signature cherry blossom hair clip. Her birthday is April 10th, and her blood type is B. Cocoa comes from a family bakery, being the youngest of four siblings, which has profoundly shaped her skills and her personality. She takes up residence and works part-time at the Rabbit House café as part of a work-study program.

Cocoa’s personality is defined by her overwhelming optimism, infectious enthusiasm, and a famously self-proclaimed motto of becoming "friends in three seconds". She is bright, cheerful, and deeply affectionate, but this is balanced by a significant degree of clumsiness, distractibility, and a tendency to act before thinking. Her easily distracted nature often leads her to chase after cute rabbits or become engrossed in trivial matters instead of completing her tasks. Despite her extroverted and energetic demeanor, Cocoa struggles with low self-confidence regarding her own abilities, often underestimating her talents while trying to project an image of maturity that her airheaded side frequently undermines.

Her primary motivation stems from her position as the youngest child in her family. She intensely idolizes her older sister, Mocha, which has fostered a powerful "sister complex" and a strong desire to be seen as a dependable and mature older sister figure herself. This drive is most prominently directed at Chino Kafū, the granddaughter of the family who runs Rabbit House, whom Cocoa immediately and persistently treats as her own younger sister. Her motivations are also tied to her future, as she holds a shifting collection of dreams, initially aspiring to be things like a magician, a lawyer, or a novelist, before eventually focusing on becoming a professional baker—her true passion.

In the story, Cocoa serves as the energetic core who brings the other characters together and drives much of the social activity. Her role is not to be the most competent but to be a catalyst for growth and warmth within her new community. Her most significant relationship is with Chino. What begins as a one-sided, overly enthusiastic attempt at sisterly affection gradually evolves into a genuine, mutually caring bond as Cocoa’s persistent kindness helps the reserved Chino process her grief over family losses and open up to others. She shares a close friendship with Chiya Ujimatsu, bonding over a shared love of sweets and playful conversation. With Rize Tedeza, she develops a respectful friendship, often relying on Rize’s competence while earning her respect for her resilience. Her relationship with Syaro Kirima starts with some initial friction, but through shared group experiences, they eventually warm to each other. Cocoa also acts as a role model and older sister figure to the younger girls, Megumi Natsu and Maya Jōga, who look up to her.

Throughout the series, Cocoa shows notable development. While she remains clumsy, she becomes more competent in her work at Rabbit House, improving skills like latte art. More significantly, she matures emotionally, moving from a单纯 desire for a younger sister to a deeper awareness of her role as a source of strength for others. She confronts fears of being forgotten after high school, and moments of introspection reveal her understanding that she is often the catalyst for positive change in her friends' lives.

Cocoa possesses several notable and often contrasting abilities. Her greatest practical skill is in baking, particularly bread-making, a talent honed from her family’s bakery which she puts to use at Rabbit House. Counter to her scatterbrained personality, she has a sharp, scientific mind with a hidden aptitude for mathematics and physics, capable of performing rapid, complex mental calculations and solving difficult crossword puzzles. However, this academic strength is offset by her disastrous performance in liberal arts subjects. Her flaws are equally defining: she is notoriously clumsy, has a terrible sense of direction, sleeps very heavily to the point where only the word "sister" can wake her, and her culinary skills outside of baking are extremely limited. She also has an irrational dislike for tomato juice and, while she can sing and play the accordion separately, attempting to do both at once results in dissonance.
