TV-Series
Description
Daishinkan, whose title translates to great priest or high priest, is an angel who serves as the primary attendant and close adviser to Zeno, the Omni-King who rules over all twelve universes. He resides in Zeno's Palace and is also the father of all the guide angels, including Whis and Vados, who serve as the attendants and martial arts teachers to the Gods of Destruction. In total, Daishinkan is the parent of thirteen angels, with twelve of them assigned to the Gods of Destruction from each universe.
Physically, Daishinkan resembles his angel offspring, possessing light blue skin, white hair that is slicked back, and purple irises. He has curved, hook-like eyebrows. A distinctive feature is the light blue ring or halo that orbits his head, unlike his children whose halos float around their necks. His standard attire consists of a teal or petrol blue long-sleeved shirt with baggy shoulder pads, matching pants, and a red belt with a gold buckle. This buckle features the kanji character for dai or great. He also carries a staff topped with a black orb that can display information from any of the universes.
In terms of personality, Daishinkan is typically calm, polite, and even easygoing, though much of his character remains enigmatic. He finds amusement in the casual and irreverent behavior of Goku, even laughing when Goku gives Zeno a nickname, and is not bothered by formalities, allowing Goku to greet him without the deep reverence expected by the gods. However, this mellow demeanor masks a much more complex and formidable nature. Despite his amiable surface, he shares Zeno’s impatience with indecency and is capable of great sternness. He has silenced the agitated God of Destruction Beerus with a single glare and enforced order during the Tournament of Power by telling Goku to be quiet. While he shows a chilling indifference to the erasure of entire universes during the tournament, even smiling afterward, it is later revealed that this may be a facade, as he showed satisfaction when the erased universes were restored by a selfless wish, demonstrating a level of morality and honor.
Daishinkan's role in the story is primarily as the highest authority figure beneath Zeno, acting as a royal vizier who manages the Omni-King's responsibilities and enforces his divine decrees. He is the master of ceremonies and referee for the Tournament of Power, during which he explains the rules, creates the fighting stage from indestructible Katchin, and modifies the gravity of the arena to match each fighter's home universe. He also has the authority to speak on behalf of Zeno. During his interactions with Universe 7, he expressed interest in Goku, calling him an interesting person, and later granted Goku the privilege of training with him to further master Ultra Instinct, showing that he is not entirely dismissive of mortals.
As the father of all angels, Daishinkan's key relationships are defined by his authority and position. He is the superior of Whis and Vados, who both acknowledge his immense power. He enforces the laws that govern angels, including their strict rule of neutrality. When his son Merus broke this law, Daishinkan personally eradicated his angelic powers and existence, though he later chose to resurrect Merus as a mortal with a limited lifespan, showing that he does hold a degree of care for his children. He also acts as a calming influence on the childlike Zeno, being one of the few beings who can reason with the Omni-King.
Daishinkan is considered one of the most powerful beings in the Dragon Ball universe. Whis has openly stated that he is no match for Daishinkan and could not hold a candle to him. In the anime, his power is said to be among the top five in the multiverse, while in the manga, he is explicitly stated to be the strongest fighter in the world. He possesses all the standard abilities of an angel, including flight, telepathy, and the creation of barrier shields that can effortlessly block attacks from multiple Gods of Destruction at once. He has demonstrated the ability to stop punches from the Gods of Destruction Beerus and Quitela using only two fingers.
Daishinkan is a master of Ultra Instinct, having achieved the highest level of the technique. He can manipulate reality on a massive scale, pulling sections of his palace into the World of Void to create fighting arenas and materializing objects from thin air. He has the power to teleport himself and others across universal distances, create portals, and even rewind time within a three-minute limit using his angel staff. Most significantly, he can enforce the laws of existence, erasing beings or restoring them as he sees fit, and can strip angels of their immortality and powers for breaking their code of conduct. Throughout the Tournament of Power, he also demonstrated the ability to nullify the flight of all participants and adjust the gravity of the arena as he pleased.
