Description
Ganos is a supporting antagonist from the Universe Survival saga, representing the 4th Universe in the Tournament of Power. A green-skinned humanoid with medium-length spiky black hair, magenta eyes, and pointed ears, his most distinctive physical traits are his large, bird-like feet, each sporting two prominent black talons. He wears a dark green sleeveless vest with yellow accents, black and yellow arm bands, baggy pants secured by a double brown belt with a red and yellow gem, and a red beret with blue and yellow goggles fastened to his forehead.
His background is that of a loyal subordinate to the gods of the 4th Universe, particularly serving the God of Destruction, Quitela, as a spy and information gatherer. Before the tournament begins, he is dispatched to observe Universe 7, where he successfully learns of their plan to recruit Frieza from Hell, reporting this crucial intelligence back to Quitela and correctly identifying the tyrant as a potential major threat. This act of espionage demonstrates his perceptiveness and intelligence.
In terms of personality, Ganos is portrayed as cautious and calculating, understanding the danger of underestimating his opponents. He quickly withdraws from a confrontation with Goku after realizing he is outmatched. However, he also displays a strong sense of loyalty to his teammates, attacking the Earthling Master Roshi in a fit of rage after witnessing him eliminate two of his comrades, Caway and Dercori. His primary character flaw is a profound arrogance and dismissiveness towards those he deems past their prime. He admits that Roshi was once a great martial artist but firmly believes that old age renders a warrior useless and in the way, a conviction that ultimately contributes to his downfall.
Ganos's role in the story is to serve as a major obstacle for Master Roshi, providing the aging martial artist with an opportunity to prove that experience and willpower can overcome youth and raw power. During his fight with Roshi, Ganos showcases his primary ability: a transformation into a large, powerful avian humanoid, resembling an eagle or a garuda, which grants him increased size, muscle mass, feathers, and a beak. His most notable and dangerous technique is a form of progressive power growth, similar to Hit's Pure Progress, that allows his combat abilities to increase with every passing minute of the fight, making him an increasingly "extremely troublesome" opponent the longer a battle continues. In this transformed state, he unleashes various attacks, including a barrage of ki slashes called the Grand Razor Aplomado, powerful energy punches, and the ability to generate devastating electrical discharges from his hands.
The key development in Ganos's narrative is his defeat and the personal lesson he learns. Despite his increasing power and successfully breaking Roshi's hypnotic technique by injuring himself with his own electricity to snap out of it, he is ultimately overwhelmed. Roshi, digging deep to surpass his own limits, endures Ganos's lightning attack and fires a full-power Kamehameha that blasts Ganos off the arena. His elimination leaves him in despair over his failure, as his core belief about the weakness of the old is directly contradicted by his defeat at Roshi's hands. Following his elimination, the 4th Universe is eventually erased by the Omni-King, Zeno, only to be later restored along with all the other universes when Android 17 uses the Super Dragon Balls to wish them back. In the manga's version of the tournament, his role is far more minor, as he is unceremoniously grabbed and thrown from the arena by a rampaging Kale.
