Description
Botamo is a male warrior hailing from the Sixth Universe, first appearing as a chosen representative for his universe in the martial arts tournament against the Seventh Universe. His name is likely a reference to Botamochi, a type of Japanese rice cake.
In terms of appearance, Botamo has a large, ursine stature, but his skin is smooth, hairless, and a glossy yellow color. He has a brown nose and a short tail, and his typical attire consists of a red tank top, matching red boots, and wristbands of the same color.
Botamo possesses a confident and prideful personality, often bordering on arrogance, especially when demonstrating his unique defensive abilities. He initially comes across as provocative, but he is not without emotion or sympathy. Following a defeat, he shows visible signs of anguish and disappointment. He also displays a notable degree of kindness and camaraderie, particularly with his teammate Auta Magetta, whom he comforts and supports after their losses.
His primary role in the story is as a combatant for Team Universe 6. In his first major appearance during the Tournament of Destroyers, he is the first fighter to face Goku. His defining trait is a special ability that makes him a formidable opponent: the power to nullify physical damage. This ability is described either as transferring the impact of attacks to another dimension or as a rubber-like body that renders him immune to blunt force and energy blasts. This power allows him to withstand a full-force Kamehameha without injury. However, this same ability proves to be his greatest weakness, as his reliance on it caused him to neglect rigorous training and improving his fundamental combat skills. Goku ultimately defeats him not through force, but by exploiting his poor balance, tripping him and dragging him out of the ring.
Later, during the Tournament of Power, Botamo returns as a member of the Universe 6 team. He shows some development by attempting to address his previous weaknesses, but he still relies heavily on his damage nullification. In this tournament, he forms a notable tag-team with his friend Magetta, known as Bota Magetta, where he rides on Magetta's shoulders to cover his partner's sensitive ears from verbal abuse while using his own invulnerability to shield them both. He is eventually eliminated by Gohan, who uses a strategy of continuous, light strikes to lift him off the ground and rob him of his balance before knocking him from the arena.
Key relationships include his close friendship with his teammate Magetta. He is often seen comforting the mechanical warrior and cooperating with him in battle. He also serves under the God of Destruction Champa and fights alongside other Universe 6 warriors such as Hit, Cabba, and Frost.
Notable abilities include his signature damage nullification, which makes him immune to physical and energy-based attacks. Despite his bulky frame, he is surprisingly agile and capable of high-speed flight. He can launch energy waves, typically from his mouth or hands, for offensive attacks. His flexible body also allows him to perform elastic bouncing attacks, such as the Botamo Impact, where he launches himself as a projectile. A notable weakness is his poor sense of balance, which savvy opponents can exploit to push or drag him out of bounds without needing to harm him physically.
