Description
Kaiohshin il Sommo is an elderly divine being who appears in Dragon Ball Super and is known as the fifteenth generation ancestor of all Kaiohshin in Universe 7. His distinctive, aged appearance is not natural but the result of an accidental fusion that occurred long ago when an old witch startled him and stole one of his Potara earrings, putting it on herself. While the fusion altered his physique into that of a short, wrinkled old man, his divine essence and vast power allowed him to maintain absolute control over the resulting body.
Personality-wise, this deity exhibits a striking contrast between eccentric, perverted tendencies and genuine divine wisdom. He shares many traits with the Earthling martial arts master Muten Roshi, displaying a strong lecherous streak and an exaggerated fascination with women and erotic magazines. He is not above using his divine powers for personal favors, famously agreeing to unlock Son Gohan's potential in exchange for being allowed to touch Bulma's rear end, and later accepting bribes of nude photographs. Despite these frivolous characteristics, he becomes serious and duty-bound when the fate of the universe is at stake, demonstrating a profound understanding of the natural order and opposing the overuse of the Dragon Balls to maintain cosmic balance.
Originally a Glind born on the Planet Kaishin from one of the sacred trees, Kaiohshin il Sommo held the position of Supreme Kai and had met the Omni-King Zeno on three separate occasions in the distant past. His immense power and unique abilities were so feared by other deities that he was sealed inside the Z Sword by the God of Destruction, Beerus, following an argument among gods roughly 75 million years before the main events of the series. The sword became extraordinarily heavy due to the power of its prisoner, and he remained trapped until Son Gohan accidentally broke the blade while training to fight Majin Buu.
His most celebrated role is unleashing the hidden potential of warriors. Unlike simple training, he possesses a special magical ability to draw out a fighter's latent power far beyond their natural limits through a lengthy ritual. This power is what other deities feared, and he famously performed this ritual on Son Gohan, unlocking the young Saiyan's ultimate form. During the climactic battle against Kid Buu, he revealed the secret of the Potara earrings for permanent fusion to Son Goku and later gave his own life force to resurrect Goku, enabling him to return to Earth and fight.
His key relationships include Shin, the Eastern Supreme Kai, who regards him as an ancestor, and Kibitoshin, the fusion of Shin and Kibito. He maintains a professional yet cautious relationship with the Gods of Destruction, particularly Beerus, who sealed him away. In Dragon Ball Super, he and Kibitoshin are the first to sense and warn the North Kaio of Beerus awakening from his long slumber. Throughout the series, he acts primarily as a mentor and observer, residing on the Sacred World of the Kai.
In terms of abilities, while his direct combat potential remains largely unseen, he possesses a wide array of divine powers. He has demonstrated resurrection, being able to transfer his life force to bring the dead back to life. His magical abilities include materializing objects from nothing, healing, creating barriers, and telepathy. He also possesses clairvoyance, using a crystal ball to observe events anywhere in the universe, and has a degree of omniscience, though this is limited and cannot penetrate places like the Hyperbolic Time Chamber. As a God of Creation, he has the power to create planets and life, and can teleport using the Kiai-Kai technique.
