Description
Penny is a young girl from the Land of Gurumes who appears in the film Dragon Ball Movie 1: Curse of the Blood Rubies. The name Penny is used in one English dub of the movie, while most other versions refer to her as Pansy, also romanized as Panji. She lives with her parents in a farming village ruled by King Gurumes, a monarch whose discovery of the Blood Rubies transforms him into a greedy tyrant. Under his orders, his soldiers, including the enforcers Pasta and Bongo, destroy the homes and fields of farmers throughout the kingdom while searching for more of the stones. When Bongo brutally beats her father for defending her, Penny decides that she can no longer stand by and sets out to find someone strong enough to challenge the king.
Her main motivation is to end the suffering of her people and bring peace and safety back to her land. She is determined and headstrong for her age, willing to confront the king's troops and travel far from her village despite having no fighting ability of her own. Early in the story, she is found by Goku and Bulma while being harassed by the shape-shifting Oolong, and she soon joins their group.
