Description
Lena, who is also known as Bulma, is a blue-haired teenage girl from the first Dragon Ball film, Curse of the Blood Rubies. She comes from a technologically advanced background and is the daughter of a wealthy inventor, which grants her access to advanced gadgets and capsules. Her primary motivation in the story is to collect the seven Dragon Balls, each one a magical relic that when gathered summons the dragon Shenron to grant any wish. She is resourceful and determined, using a device called a Dragon Radar to locate the balls. Lena is also quick-witted and willing to use force when necessary, although she relies more on her intellect than physical strength.

In the film, Lena runs into Goku while he is fishing, and after initially being mistaken for a monster, she convinces him she is human. She learns that Goku possesses one of the Dragon Balls, and they team up. Together they encounter the shapeshifter Oolong, the desert bandit Yamcha and his companion Puar, and eventually the turtle hermit Master Roshi. Lena serves as the catalyst for the adventure, driving the search for the Dragon Balls while also involving herself in the plight of a young girl named Pansy, whose village is being destroyed by King Gurumes. Her role is that of the practical and clever member of the group, often using her capsules to produce vehicles and shelter. She is not a fighter, but her ingenuity proves crucial at the climax when she realizes the six Dragon Balls are inside Gurumes and throws her own ball into his mouth, triggering Shenron's appearance.

Lena's key relationships include her growing bond with Goku, who acts as her protector and friend, and her interactions with Yamcha, who is struck with a paralyzing fear of beautiful women upon seeing her. This fear leads to comedic moments, but by the end of the film, Yamcha and Lena decide to start dating. She also works with Oolong, whom she uses to trick Master Roshi into giving up his Dragon Ball. Her development over the course of the film is subtle: she begins as a self-interested treasure hunter but becomes more involved in helping Pansy and ultimately contributes to saving the land from the curse of the blood rubies. The ending sees her and Yamcha leaving together, suggesting a romantic future.

Notable abilities include her technical skill with capsules, which allow her to instantly deploy a house, a hydrojet, and other vehicles. She is also a competent driver and pilot, and her Dragon Radar is essential for locating the balls. While she possesses no superhuman strength or martial arts prowess, her quick thinking and resourcefulness are her greatest assets, often saving the group from difficult situations. In the context of this film, Lena (Bulma) is depicted as a determined and intelligent teenage girl who uses her brains to drive the adventure forward.
