Description
Nasa Houston is a main character in the anime The Orbital Children. She is a young woman in her early twenties who works as a nurse and caretaker for children who were born in space, including Touya Sagami and Konoha Nanase, aboard the commercial space station Anshin. Despite her professional role, she openly expresses a strong dislike for children, though she still makes an effort to ensure their safety in the immediate aftermath of a catastrophic impact on the station.

Beneath this surface, Nasa Houston is secretly a highly skilled hacker and a dedicated member of John Doe, a terrorist organization that adheres to an apocalyptic prophecy left behind by an advanced artificial intelligence. Her true motivations are driven by her fanatical belief in that prophecy, which she works to bring to fruition. After her affiliation is revealed, her demeanor shifts from a reluctant, somewhat detached caregiver to a more assertive and outspoken individual, demonstrating her intelligence and technical expertise.

In the story, Nasa Houston serves as the primary antagonist. At first, she is simply an adult supervising the children during the unfolding disaster. As events progress, she actively uses her hacking abilities to manipulate the station’s systems and advance the goals of John Doe, putting her in direct conflict with the child protagonists and other survivors. Her key relationships are with the children she is assigned to care for, particularly Touya and Konoha, and with the other members of her organization.

Her notable abilities include advanced computer hacking and a deep understanding of the space station’s infrastructure, which she leverages to bypass security protocols and seize control of critical functions. She also possesses a calm, calculating nature that allows her to operate under pressure, though her initial reluctance to engage with children contrasts with her later confident and decisive actions. Her character does not undergo a redemptive arc; instead, she remains steadfast in her allegiance to the John Doe agenda, making her a consistent obstacle for the other characters.
