Description
Knight is a character in the Duel Masters anime introduced in the first season. He serves as the mysterious and soft-spoken mentor to the protagonist, Shobu Kirifuda. A Kaijudo Master, he is an expert in the Water and Darkness Civilizations and acts as a guardian figure, ensuring the power of Kaijudo is not misused. The character was created specifically for the anime and is loosely based on the manga character NAC, with his past remaining largely unexplored and shrouded in mystery throughout the series.

Knight possesses a strange and mystic personality. He is gentle and kind, yet deeply reserved. In the English adaptation, his inner monologue provides a dry, subtle form of humor. He has a very human side, demonstrated by his shy crush on his secretary, which he is too nervous to act upon. Another duelist named Saiyuki harbors a strong affection for him. He is a skilled duelist with extensive knowledge of the game.

His primary motivation is to guide Shobu on his journey to becoming a great duelist and to protect the balance between the human world and the world of the creatures. Despite being Shobu's mentor, Knight is frequently unable to directly assist him due to Shobu's stubborn independence or Knight's inability to arrive in time. On one occasion, Dr. Root asked Knight to take on the persona of Dragon Mask to duel Shobu and help him reclaim his tournament pass. He also attempted to help Hakuoh during his time at the temple, though his efforts were misunderstood by Hakuoh.

Knight has a close mentorship relationship with both Shobu Kirifuda and Hakuoh. He is a long-time associate of Shobu's father, Shori Kirifuda. Within the Kaijudo community, he works with figures such as Dr. Root in the Temple, the governing body of duelists.

Over the course of the series, Knight undergoes a subtle change in appearance, notably discarding his customary trench coat and goggles for a pink shirt in later seasons, reflecting a shift from his initial guarded demeanor. He remains a consistent and respected guiding presence for Shobu, eventually stepping back as his student surpasses him in skill. As a Kaijudo Master, his abilities include not only a high level of dueling skill but also the power to bring the creatures of the game into the real world.
