Description
A-13 is a fictional character from the Dragon Ball Z film series, specifically appearing as the primary antagonist of the seventh movie. He is an advanced artificial human, or android, created by the scientist Dr. Gero. Following Dr. Gero's death at the hands of his own creations, Androids 17 and 18, an underground supercomputer carrying Gero's consciousness and programmed with his vendetta continued its work. This computer completed the development of A-13 alongside two other androids, designated A-14 and A-15, with their sole, pre-programmed directive being the assassination of the Earth's protector, Son Goku.

In his standard form, A-13 possesses a humanoid appearance, standing at approximately 213 centimeters tall. He has long, white hair and typically wears a yellow-brown vest, dark green trousers, and a gray and yellow baseball cap adorned with the logo of the Red Ribbon Army, the organization once led by his creator. He serves as the leader of the trio, directing the actions of his counterparts, A-14 and A-15, in their mission. A-13's core motivation is singular and unyielding: to locate and destroy Son Goku. He pursues this objective with relentless determination, showing little interest in anything that does not directly serve this goal. While he will eliminate anyone who interferes, his focus remains exclusively on Goku.

A-13's personality is characterized by a calm and confident demeanor. He is not prone to excessive monologuing or needless cruelty; he is a pragmatic and efficient weapon. In the original Japanese version of the film, he speaks more frequently than his mostly silent comrades, displaying a level of composure and superiority in battle, as he believes his combat data has already analyzed and countered all of Goku's techniques. His personality undergoes a marked shift after his transformation into Super A-13. In this enhanced state, he becomes a far more frenzied, brutal, and maniacal figure, his speech reduced to little more than roaring his target's name, as his power overwhelms his remaining personality.

Within the story, A-13 and his companions are activated and begin their search for Goku, detecting his energy signature and confronting him in a northern glacial region. A-13 engages Goku directly, proving to be a formidable opponent capable of matching a Super Saiyan in combat. While A-13 fights Goku, his allies are destroyed by the other Z-Warriors, specifically Vegeta and Future Trunks. However, this was not a failure but a failsafe within the androids' design. A-13 proceeds to absorb the computer chips and power reactors from the remains of A-14 and A-15, triggering a transformation into his more powerful state, Super A-13. This new form is a hulking behemoth, standing 262 centimeters tall with massively expanded musculature, blue skin, and orange, spiky hair. In this state, he effortlessly defeats Vegeta, Future Trunks, and Piccolo, even shattering Trunks' sword on his body and overwhelming a Super Saiyan Goku. The only key relationship of note is his functional one with his fellow androids, A-14 and A-15, whom he treats as disposable components necessary for his own evolution.

A-13's development is not an emotional or psychological arc but a physical and tactical one. He begins as a powerful but standard android and evolves into a nearly unstoppable juggernaut through the absorption of his brethren. His defeat comes only through a unique tactic. With his allies buying time, Goku gathers the energy for the Spirit Bomb, a technique that draws power from all living things. Instead of throwing the sphere, a Super Saiyan Goku absorbs its colossal energy directly into his body. This newly amplified power proves too great for Super A-13 to handle. As Goku's energy aura incinerates the android's arms, a single punch from Goku pierces his torso, destroying him completely.

A-13 possesses several notable abilities common to androids, such as the power of flight and unlimited energy reserves, which means his power does not diminish over time and his ki cannot be sensed by the heroes. In his base form, his signature technique is the S.S. Deadly Bomber, a large, red, spiraling energy sphere that tracks its target and is said to be powerful enough to destroy half a planet. After transforming into Super A-13, his physical strength, speed, and durability are amplified to the point where he can easily overpower multiple Super Saiyan-level fighters simultaneously. His body becomes incredibly resilient, capable of withstanding direct attacks that would destroy other warriors. He is considered by some supplementary sources to be more powerful than Androids 17 and 18 in his base state and superior to Android 16 after his transformation, making him the most powerful purely mechanical android created by Dr. Gero's supercomputer.
