Description
Andróide #15, also known as Android 15 or simply No. 15, is a fictional character from the Dragon Ball Z film Dragon Ball Z: Super Android 13!. He is the fifteenth artificial human created by the mind of the Red Ribbon Army scientist Doctor Gero. Although the primary timeline version of this android was destroyed by his own creator, the model seen in the film was completed and activated by Doctor Gero's supercomputer following the doctor’s death, with the sole purpose of carrying out Gero’s vendetta against the Saiyan warrior Son Goku.
In terms of physical appearance, Andróide #15 is distinct and memorable. He is very short and small in stature, with dark skin and exaggerated large pink lips, a design that evokes certain stereotypes. He wears a large green hat with a red ball on top, a dark yellow and blue overcoat over a black and white tuxedo shirt, a red bow tie bearing the Red Ribbon Army logo, baggy light blue pants, and black boots. Underneath his hat, his cranium is revealed to be a clear glass dome filled with mechanical and electronic parts, similar to other androids like Androids 19 and 20. His eyes, hidden behind sunglasses, are also completely mechanical.
His personality, while limited due to his artificial nature and minimal dialogue, presents a unique and somewhat contradictory blend of traits. In his original Japanese appearance, he speaks very little, only uttering the names of his targets like "Son Goku". However, in the English Funimation dub, his character is given a much more defined and flamboyant persona, often compared to a stereotypical "pimp" or "gangster" complete with an African American accent. This version is more talkative than his partner, Andróide #14, and has a notable habit of drinking from a small flask, adding a layer of charm and goofiness to his menacing purpose. Despite these added quirks, his primary and overriding motivation remains the cold, programmed directive to eliminate Goku, displaying little genuine emotion beyond his mission.
In the story, Andróide #15 serves as one of the secondary antagonists. Alongside his larger and quieter partner, Andróide #14, he attacks Goku and his friends while they are having lunch at a department store. The battle quickly moves to an isolated glacial area, where the two androids demonstrate extreme synergy and deadly precision in combat, pressuring both Goku and Future Trunks in their base forms. Andróide #15 is equipped with notable abilities that make him a formidable foe. He has a direct link to Doctor Gero's supercomputer, allowing him to analyze the battle data of his opponents in real time and predict their next moves. He can also generate a defensive barrier, which he used to nullify attacks from Trunks.
The key relationship for Andróide #15 is with his fellow creations, Andróide #13 and Andróide #14. They operate as a team, with #15 and #14 acting as the initial strike force. He faces off against the Saiyan prince Vegeta, who arrives to join the battle. In their one-on-one duel, Andróide #15 proves powerful enough to give Vegeta a significant challenge, even managing to land a heavy blow that temporarily knocks Vegeta out of his Super Saiyan state. However, his development ends abruptly when Vegeta transforms into a Super Saiyan and destroys him with a single, decisive decapitating punch. Even in defeat, his role in the story is not over. His remains, along with those of Andróide #14, are absorbed by Andróide #13, providing the components and data necessary for him to transform into the more powerful Super Android 13.
