Movie
Description
Kauti, known as Ganzo, is a character from the first One Piece movie. He is an elderly man who works as an oden chef, a type of Japanese hot pot dish, and operates his own small shop. His appearance is distinctive: he is bald with dark skin, a prominent mustache, and typically wears a black bandana with blue spots along with a three-part dark blue apron that displays the name of his shop.

Ganzo’s personality is defined by both his professional pride and his deep sense of personal loyalty. As a chef, he takes great pride in his craft and strives to perfect his oden recipe. More significantly, he is a man who values genuine bonds over material wealth. This core belief shapes his entire character and is the foundation for his most important relationship, which is with the legendary gold pirate Woonan. In their youth, Ganzo and Woonan were close childhood friends. Their friendship fractured during an argument about the importance of gold, where Ganzo insisted that gold cannot bring happiness and instead spreads greed and turns friends into enemies, making it as cold and heartless as stone. During their scuffle, both fell over a cliff. Woonan managed to grab Ganzo's hand, but Ganzo intentionally let go, sacrificing himself so that Woonan could climb back up using his precious pirate flag. Ganzo survived the fall but Woonan left to become a pirate, and they never saw each other again.

Ganzo’s role in the story is set in motion decades later when he meets the Straw Hat Pirates. He is the grandfather of a boy named Tobio, who befriends the crew. His primary motivation throughout the movie is tied to his unresolved past with Woonan. Despite their argument, he never forgot his friend and continued to improve his oden, hoping that one day Woonan would taste it again. This dedication leads him, Tobio, and the Straw Hats to the hidden crypt where Woonan's treasure is supposedly kept. The key moment in his development comes when he discovers that the treasure room contains no gold, only Woonan's skeleton, his pirate flag, and a dying message. Ganzo is deeply moved to learn that his friend ultimately agreed with him, realizing that their shared friendship was the most valuable treasure of all, far surpassing any amount of gold.

Regarding his abilities, Ganzo is acknowledged as a highly skilled oden chef. Both Monkey D. Luffy and Roronoa Zoro compliment his cooking, finding it excellent. However, despite his skill, his business has few customers. He is not a fighter, and his physical capabilities appear to be limited, as he is easily knocked aside by the antagonist, the pirate El Drago. His true strength lies in his wisdom, his loyalty, and his dedication to his culinary craft.
