Description
In Dragon Ball Movie 3: Mystical Adventure, Chiaotzu is reimagined from his usual role as a martial arts student to become the young and childlike emperor of the Mifan Empire. He is a small, doll-like figure with distinctive plain white skin and bright red cheeks, and like many characters in the series, he does not have a visible nose. This version of Chiaotzu is not a student of the Crane School but rather the monarch of a powerful nation, with the martial artist Tien Shinhan serving as his loyal bodyguard and constant companion.

In this story, Chiaotzu is depicted as being naive, trusting, and deeply emotional, driven by a singular and heartfelt motivation. He is grief-stricken over the disappearance of his beloved wife, Ran Ran, and is desperate to be reunited with her. This longing is the central force behind his actions, as he is willing to go to great lengths to bring her back. His trusted minister, the villainous Master Shen, manipulates this vulnerability, convincing the young emperor that the only way to find Ran Ran is to gather the seven Dragon Balls and summon the eternal dragon Shenron to wish for her return.

Personality-wise, this incarnation of Chiaotzu retains the core traits of his original character: he is quiet, somewhat timid, and possesses a clear childish nature. His decision-making is heavily influenced by his emotions and his trust in those close to him, namely Tien and the duplicitous Shen. While he holds the highest rank in the land, he does not act like a typical tyrant or a wise ruler but rather as a lonely child in a powerful position, which makes him a sympathetic figure who is easily led astray.

His role in the plot is primarily that of a pawn for Master Shen and the ruthless General Tao, who secretly plan to assassinate him and seize control of the empire. Chiaotzu is unaware of their treachery, believing they are helping him achieve his goal. The climax of the film hinges on his relationship with Tien Shinhan. When Shen finally orders Tien to kill the emperor, Tien refuses, having grown genuinely fond of the young ruler. In a pivotal moment, Tien turns against his own master to protect Chiaotzu, destroying Shen with a Tri-Beam and cementing their bond. After the conflict is resolved, it is revealed that Chiaotzu's beloved "wife," Ran Ran, is actually a cherished doll that had gone missing, highlighting the innocent and childlike perspective that defines this version of the character.

In terms of development, Chiaotzu's arc in the movie is largely about his awakening to the truth of his situation. He begins as a manipulated ruler but ends up safe and reunited with his cherished possession, though his overall demeanor remains largely unchanged. Regarding notable abilities, this film does not focus heavily on Chiaotzu's combat skills, as he is portrayed as an emperor rather than a fighter. However, in keeping with his general character concept from the series, he is implied to possess psychic powers like telekinesis and telepathy, though they are not a primary focus of his role in this particular adventure. His importance comes not from his strength but from his position, his innocence, and his emotional significance to the heroic Tien Shinhan.
