Description
Lena is the name given to Bulma in the Harmony Gold English dub of the film Dragon Ball: Mystical Adventure. In the original Japanese version and most other adaptations, the character is known as Bulma. She is a teenage genius and the daughter of a brilliant scientist, which makes her a highly skilled inventor and engineer. In this film, Lena embarks on a journey with her companions Oolong, Puar, and Launch to gather the seven Dragon Balls, her stated motivation being to wish for a boyfriend. She is resourceful and quick-witted, often using her intelligence to navigate challenges that cannot be solved through physical strength alone. She travels alongside Goku and his friends during the events of the film, though her own quest runs parallel to the main storyline centered on the tournament in the country of Mifan and the schemes of Master Shen and Mercenary Tao. Her key relationships include her long-time friend Goku, her on-and-off romantic interest Yamcha, and her traveling companions Oolong, Puar, and Launch. She also interacts with Master Roshi and Krillin during the adventure. In this film, Lena does not undergo significant personal development, as the story is a self-contained alternate retelling of existing material. Her notable abilities are not martial arts but her scientific genius, most prominently demonstrated through her invention of the Dragon Radar, a device that detects the energy signals of Dragon Balls and is essential to her search. She also displays considerable courage and determination, venturing into dangerous situations to achieve her goal.
