Wendee Lee
Description
Wendee Lee is a highly prolific American voice actress, voice director, and writer, primarily known for her extensive work in anime dubbing and video games. Born on February 20, 1960, in Los Angeles, California, she began her career in the entertainment industry as a dancer, having studied dance and theater from a young age. Her path to voice acting began informally during her school years, a hobby that eventually became her profession.
Lee's first professional foray into anime voice work came in the 1980s with the Harmony Gold production of Robotech, where she voiced the character Vanessa Leeds. This role marked the beginning of a decades-long career that would establish her as one of the most recognizable voices in the industry. In the early days of anime localization, she also worked with Streamline Pictures on several classic titles, including an early version of Dragon Ball, and often used pseudonyms such as Wendee Swan or Wendee Day.
Throughout her career, Lee has portrayed a vast array of iconic characters, demonstrating a remarkable vocal range. She is widely celebrated for her role as the seductive and complex bounty hunter Faye Valentine in the seminal series Cowboy Bebop. Other defining performances include the energetic and domineering Haruhi Suzumiya in The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, the young Takeru "T.K." Takaishi in Digimon Adventure, and the otaku Konata Izumi in Lucky Star. She also voiced Queen Serenity in the Viz Media redub of the classic Sailor Moon and its sequel Sailor Moon Crystal.
Beyond these landmark roles, Lee's filmography is remarkably deep and includes characters from nearly every major anime franchise. She voices Yoruichi Shihōin in Bleach, Bulma in various Dragon Ball projects, and Lisa Lisa in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. She also portrayed Blanc/White Heart in the Hyperdimension Neptunia series, Kycilla Zabi in Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin, and Archive in Vivy -Fluorite Eye's Song-. Her credits further include roles in Bastard!!, Adachi and Shimamura, and numerous other series, showcasing her ability to voice everything from young boys to mature women.

She has lent her directorial expertise to long-running and popular series such as Bleach, Love Hina, and Outlaw Star. Her directing work extends to more recent titles as well, including Cells at Work! Code Black and the critically acclaimed Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, where she also served as a casting director and voiced a character. Throughout her extensive career, Lee has collaborated frequently with a consistent group of fellow voice actors and directors in the Los Angeles-based talent pool. She has often worked alongside actors like Steve Blum and Kirk Thornton, with whom she co-directed Bleach.
