Description
Maura Chester, called Mora Chester in the original light novel and manga, is the Saint of Mountains and the head of the All Heavens Temple, the organization that oversees all Saints. She is one of the six chosen Braves destined to fight the Demon God. She appears as a tall woman who looks younger than her age, with long black hair, blue eyes, and a blue priest garment, and she wears large armored iron gantlets on her arms that serve both as protection and as blunt weapons.

Maura was born as the youngest daughter of a wealthy wood merchant and was deeply loved by her family and household. Because of her father's close association with the temple of the Mountain, which protected merchants, she entered that temple as a nun at age thirteen. Her diligent nature and strong academic performance made her an outstanding member of the temple. When she was nineteen, the previous Saint of the Mountain retired, and a holy ceremony designated her as the new Saint. She spent the next three years developing her powers until she became one of the five strongest Saints alive, also showing notable administrative talent. At twenty-six, she succeeded the previous head of the Temple of the Whole World, the Saint of the Sun, becoming the new leader. Over ten years of strict, righteous, and devoted management, she earned widespread respect, with many considering humanity fortunate to have such a capable figure in a critical period leading up to the Demon God's awakening. In the three years before the story begins, she became intensely focused on training herself and other battle-oriented Saints, including the Saint of Blades Nashetania, the Saint of Salt, the Saint of Fire, and two and a half years before the awakening, the newly appointed Saint of Fresh Blood, Rolonia.

Maura's personality is extremely serious and intellectual. She is calm, composed, and authoritative, making her a natural initial leader among the Braves, though she later steps aside in favor of Adlet. She has a strong sense of duty and righteousness, and she is the only member of the group who can manage the wild and unpredictable Chamo. Her strict and dignified demeanor softens dramatically when she is with her family; her greatest happiness comes from her husband Ganna and her young daughter Shenilla, and she becomes a doting parent when around Shenilla.

Her key motivations are her responsibility to prepare humanity for the battle against the Demon God and her duty as the leader of the Saints to ensure that the powers of the gods are not misused. She is deeply committed to her role and becomes frantic in her training efforts as the awakening draws near. Her loyalty to her mission sometimes puts her in conflict with others, but her commitment is unwavering.

In the story, Maura is one of the seven Braves who gather, leading to the central mystery of an impostor among them. She plays a pivotal role as the senior, most experienced, and most authoritative figure in the group, often acting as a voice of reason and a strategist. She is later replaced by Adlet as the leader of the group, but she remains a key member.

Maura's abilities stem from her power as the Saint of the Mountain. This power is versatile and composed of several simpler abilities rather than one overwhelmingly powerful skill. She can greatly increase her physical strength, make her voice carry clearly over long distances, and create healing bandages. Some of her abilities, like her senrigan which allows her to see everything happening on a mountain from miles away, only work within mountainous terrain. Her large iron gantlets function as formidable blunt weapons in close combat. She also has significant experience in martial arts and administrative management. In terms of development, her character is defined by her shift from a purely administrative and training role to direct frontline combat as a Brave, and the contrast between her stern public persona and her warmth as a mother and wife.
