Rina Satō

Rina Satō is a Japanese voice actress and singer born on May 2, 1981, in Kitakyushu, Fukuoka Prefecture. She is affiliated with the talent agency Tokyo Actor's Consumer's Cooperative Society, also known as Haikyō. Standing 157 cm tall, she is sometimes credited under the pseudonym Suzune Asakura.

Her interest in voice acting began in elementary school after watching a television program about the profession. Following high school graduation in Ehime Prefecture, she pursued this path by enrolling in Yoyogi Animation Academy before training at the Haikyō Voice Actors Studio, where she was part of the 19th graduating class in 2001. She became a member of the Haikyō cooperative the following year in 2002.

Satō debuted in 2003 with her first notable role as Prim Snowlight in Divergence Eve. In 2004, she voiced Tsutako Takeshima in Maria Watches Over Us. She gained significant recognition with her first lead role in 2005, voicing the titular character Negi Springfield in Negima! Magister Negi Magi, which also marked her first performance as a male character.

Throughout her career, Satō has portrayed a wide range of characters across anime, video games, and film. In anime, she is well known as Mikoto Misaka in the long-running A Certain Magical Index series and its spin-off A Certain Scientific Railgun. She also voices Tōru Taki in Natsume's Book of Friends, Rei Hino or Sailor Mars in Sailor Moon Crystal, Shura Kirigakure in Blue Exorcist, and Senjumaru Shutara in Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War. Her other prominent anime roles include Haruka Minami in Minami-ke, Kaoru Tanamachi in Amagami SS, Ayaka Sunohara in Miss Caretaker of Sunohara-sou, Mii in BOFURI, and Ranko Mannen in Akiba Maid War.

Her work extends significantly into video game voice acting. She is known for voicing Makoto Niijima in Persona 5, Velvet Crowe in Tales of Berseria, Vert or Green Heart in the Hyperdimension Neptunia series, and Eula Lawrence in Genshin Impact. She also voiced Yūki Kusakabe in the To Heart 2 series and Esty Dee in the Atelier game series.

Satō's contributions to the industry have been recognized with several awards. She won the Best Lead Actress Award at the 8th Seiyu Awards in 2014, largely for her performance as Mikoto Misaka. In 2017, she received the Best Female Character Voice Award at the Famitsu Awards for her role as Velvet Crowe in Tales of Berseria. Additionally, the theme song Happy☆Material from Negima! was awarded the Kansai Radio Award at the 10th Animation Kobe in 2005, which she performed with fellow cast members.

Beyond acting, Satō is also a singer. In 2010, she joined a self-organized voice actor group called N± with other female voice actors, which was involved in radio shows, live events, and conventions before returning to its original form as N's in 2012. She also began performing on stage with the theater group Tokyo JanKen, led by voice actress Megumi Toyoguchi, in 2014.
