Chinami Miyanagi, born into the Fey spirit medium clan, is the twin sister of Iris and daughter of Morgan Fey. Her father divorced Morgan after losing clan leadership to Morgan's sister Misty, taking Chinami and Iris away. Chinami convinced herself Morgan abandoned them due to their lack of spiritual powers. She later manipulated her father into sending Iris to Hazakura Temple, viewing her sister as a nuisance. At age 14, Chinami orchestrated a fake kidnapping plot with her tutor Terry Fawles and stepsister Valerie Hawthorne, a police detective. The plan aimed to extort a $2 million diamond from her father. During the exchange on Dusky Bridge, Valerie shot Terry, and Chinami jumped into Eagle River with the diamond, staging her own death. Terry faced conviction for her murder based on Valerie's false testimony. Valerie later rescued Chinami and forged documents to create her new identity, "Melissa Foster." Chinami blamed Iris for the plan's failure after Iris refused to participate. Five years later, Terry escaped prison and arranged to meet Valerie at Dusky Bridge. When Valerie threatened to expose the truth, Chinami stabbed her to death. She concealed Valerie's body in Terry's stolen car trunk and impersonated Valerie during their meeting, using a timed photograph as an alibi. Terry was recaptured and tried for Valerie's murder. During the trial, prosecutor Miles Edgeworth called "Melissa Foster" as a witness. Defense attorney Mia Fey exposed her true identity and nearly proved her guilt, but Terry committed suicide by drinking poison from a vial necklace, fulfilling a pact made with Chinami. Six months later, Chinami poisoned prosecutor Diego Armando with the same poison during a meeting, plunging him into a coma. She gave the vial necklace to university student Phoenix Wright to dispose of evidence. When her ex-boyfriend Doug Swallow discovered the theft and tried to warn Phoenix, she murdered him by electrocution. She planted Phoenix's poisoned cold medicine on Doug's body to frame him. Mia Fey defended Phoenix and proved Chinami's guilt, leading to her conviction and eventual execution. After her execution, Morgan enlisted Chinami's spirit in a plot to kill Mia's sister Maya Fey. Pearl Fey, Morgan's daughter, was to channel Chinami's spirit to commit the murder, ensuring Pearl became the next clan master. Chinami agreed to spite the now-deceased Mia Fey. Prosecutor Godot, formerly Diego Armando, learned of the plot and arranged for Misty Fey to channel Chinami instead. Chinami attacked Maya but was stabbed by Godot, killing Misty. Maya then channeled Chinami and locked herself in the Inner Temple. During an earthquake, Chinami switched places with Iris, trapping her in the temple and impersonating her during Iris's trial for Misty's murder. Posing as "Iris" during the trial, Chinami manipulated Phoenix Wright into believing Maya committed suicide. Phoenix eventually exposed her deception with Godot's help. When Chinami claimed she could not be punished as a spirit, Mia Fey, channeled by Pearl, stated Chinami's existence was punishment enough. Chinami's spirit was then banished. Chinami consistently displayed a charming, innocent facade masking manipulative and violent tendencies. She exploited relationships for personal gain, showing no remorse for her actions, including betraying family members and partners. Her motivations centered solely on self-interest, rejecting any notion of helping others. She exhibited difficulty maintaining lies under cross-examination, often relying on her appearance to deflect suspicion. After death, her spirit retained the same vindictive nature, continuing her pursuit of revenge against the Fey family.
