Description
Dan and Reiki Soudou are twin brothers and minor antagonists in the Beyblade: Metal Fusion series, serving as members of the villainous Dark Nebula organization. They are distinctive for operating as a pair, combining their efforts to control a single Beyblade, Evil Gemios DF145FS, a strategy that allows them to circumvent the usual rules of a one-on-one battle. Dan, who wears red, is the older and more mature of the two, while Reiki, who wears blue, is the younger and more impulsive brother. Physically, they are nearly identical teenagers with slim builds, blue eyes, and medium-length orange hair, though Reiki's hair is a darker shade and swept in the opposite direction of his brother's.
Their personalities are contrasting yet complementary, which is directly reflected in their battling styles. Dan is patient, stubborn, and defensive, preferring to conserve his stamina and wait for the opponent to make the first move. He is the designated leader of their duo, creating the strategies and giving orders, and he carries an air of arrogance about his careful planning. Reiki, on the other hand, is immature, hasty, and offensive-minded. He grows easily bored with defensive tactics and wishes to end battles as quickly as possible with direct attacks. While Reiki normally follows his brother's commands, his impatience can cause him to snap and act on his own, leading to arguments between the twins. This internal conflict is their primary weakness, as it distracts them at critical moments.
In the story, the Soudou brothers are first dispatched as grunts to stop the protagonists Gingka Hagane and Kyoya Tategami from infiltrating the Dark Nebula's castle. In this initial encounter, they use their own separate Beyblades but are quickly defeated by Kyoya's special move. Determined to prove themselves, they train intensely, and their efforts lead to their master, Doji, granting them the shared Beyblade, Evil Gemios. This Beyblade is designed for their unique twin dynamic, allowing them to pool their power. They are later sent to participate in a major tournament where they battle Kenta Yumiya. Although their combined strength gives them an early advantage, their signature flaw emerges when Reiki refuses to follow Dan's defensive plan, leading to a squabble that Kenta exploits to win. They continue to serve the Dark Nebula, participating in battles against other bladers like Tsubasa Otori, but they lose every major on-screen battle they fight. Their story culminates when they are ordered to battle Ryuga as punishment for a failure; they are easily defeated, and their spirits are temporarily consumed by Ryuga's Beyblade, Lightning L-Drago. They are later restored after L-Drago's defeat, and they join in celebrating the victory of Gingka Hagane.
The twins share a single Beyblade, Evil Gemios DF145FS, which is based on the Gemini constellation and contains a dual beast spirit called Twins. This arrangement allows them to perform combination moves that mix elemental powers. Dan controls the element of fire, while Reiki controls ice. Their notable abilities include Down Burst, a special move that creates a powerful tornado of fire and ice. They also have individual techniques: Dan can create a defensive Blaze Wall, and Reiki can launch a counter-attacking Icicle Edge. Their entire fighting style is built on synergy and teamwork, making their shared Beyblade far stronger than the sum of its parts, provided they can stay in agreement.
