Kureha Akabane is a Night Wizard and Renji Hiiragi's childhood friend who attends Kimei Academy. She recruits Elis Shihō into the school's Astronomy Club after discovering her interest in the stars. Her artifact is an arm-mounted crossbow capable of various attacks.

As a childhood friend, Kureha knows one of Renji's secrets and frequently teases him with this knowledge. Despite her playful harassment, she demonstrates deep attachment to him, often exerting a controlling, motherly influence over his life. When Renji nearly dies saving Elis, Kureha reveals her fear of losing him and pleads with him to avoid such recklessness, particularly if Elis were to lose control again.

During the story's events, Kirihito kills Kureha in episode twelve, though Anzelotte and Lion Gunta later combine their powers to resurrect her. This resurrection served as a countermeasure against Kirihito's plan to summon Shaimal, which was initiated by Elis's despair over her friends' deaths. Kureha is in love with Renji.

She has purple eyes and long purple hair that falls to her waist. She is also associated with the trait of being a shrine maiden.
