Description
Negi Springfield, a ten-year-old mage from Wales, is the son of the legendary "Thousand Master" Nagi Springfield and Arika Anarchia Entheofushia, last Queen of Vespertatia. Raised by his cousin Nekane Springfield in an English village after his mother's death, he frequently courted danger hoping to lure his absent father into rescuing him. This wish tragically materialized at age four when demons attacked; Nagi saved him but departed after leaving Negi his staff. The aftermath forced Negi, Nekane, and childhood friend Anya to relocate to a Welsh magician village, where Negi devoted himself to magical studies. He graduated top of his class from magic school at nine years old under the kazoe age-counting system (where newborns are age one).

As training to become a Magister Magi, Negi was assigned to teach English and serve as homeroom teacher for Class 2-A (later 3-A) at Japan's all-girls Mahora Academy Junior High. His class, initially 31 students (later 30), included supernatural beings like a vampire, a robot, and a ghost. Despite initial skepticism from his older students—particularly Asuna Kagurazaka, who uncovered his magical abilities early—he earned their respect through maturity, kindness, and dedication. He formed deep bonds with many students, several of whom developed romantic feelings he often failed to recognize due to emotional naivety.

Negi exhibits a dual nature: academically gifted, optimistic, and compassionate, yet displaying childlike traits like a hatred of baths and a habit of clutching people during sleep from years sharing a bed with Nekane. His primary flaw is a tendency to overwork himself, driven by a desire to emulate his father. This manifests in rigorous magical combat training, martial arts practice under Kū Fei, and advanced studies, often straining his health. He enjoys milk tea but despises coffee, calling it "muddy water".

Initially specializing in wind and lightning magic, Negi's abilities expanded significantly. He mastered delayed spells for tactical combat and learned Shundou (instant movement) to offset physical frailty. Under Evangeline A.K. McDowell and Jack Rakan, he developed the dangerous Magia Erebea technique, infusing his body with magic. Key iterations include:
- "Lightning Speed" (Agilitas Fulminas) enhancing mobility.
- "Thunder in Heaven, Great Vigor," enabling lightning-form transformation.
- Spell synthesis, exemplified by "Lightning God Lance: Titan Slayer."
He later perfected "Circuli Absorptionis Ex Tempore," absorbing opponents' magic—a feat even Evangeline failed to achieve. During a battle with Kurt Godel, he lost control of Magia Erebea, transforming into an immortal vampire-like entity.

Negi's journey intertwines searching for Nagi with his teaching duties. Early challenges included ensuring his entire class passed finals, leading the "Baka Rangers" study group through perilous library expeditions. He formed multiple Pactio contracts—magical partnerships sealed with a kiss—granting partners artifacts and powers. Notable contracts include Asuna (artifact "Ensis Exorcizans" nullifies magic) and Yue Ayase (intelligence aided magical investigations). These alliances proved crucial in repelling Wilhelm's kidnappers and thwarting Evangeline's early antagonism.

His adventures escalated during the Mahora Festival confrontation with time-traveler Chao Lingshen, and later ventures to the Magic World. In the OVA "Mahō Sensei Negima!: Mō Hitotsu no Sekai," he traveled to London and his Welsh hometown with Ala Alba (White Wing), seeking clues about Nagi, highlighting his leadership and unresolved familial yearnings.

In later life, Negi rescued his father from the Mage of the Beginning, married student Chisame Hasegawa, and fathered a son, Touta Konoe. He adopted Evangeline as a stepmother. Negi died at age 71 in an alternate timeline, leaving a legacy explored in the sequel "UQ Holder!".
