Description
"Hyperdimension Neptunia Hi☆Light" is a short anime series that serves as a promotional tie-in to the "Hyperdimension Neptunia" video game franchise. The story is set in the fictional world of Gamindustri, a realm divided into four nations, each ruled by a goddess known as a CPU (Console Patron Unit). These nations—Planeptune, Lastation, Lowee, and Leanbox—represent different gaming consoles and are in constant competition for shares, which symbolize the devotion of their citizens.
The central characters are the CPUs: Neptune, the carefree and often lazy ruler of Planeptune; Noire, the diligent and competitive leader of Lastation; Blanc, the quiet yet fiercely protective ruler of Lowee; and Vert, the elegant and mature goddess of Leanbox. Each CPU has a human form and a more powerful HDD (Hard Drive Divinity) form, which they transform into during battles or critical moments. The CPUs are supported by their human companions, known as Candidates, who assist in maintaining balance and resolving conflicts.
The narrative revolves around the CPUs' efforts to maintain peace and prosperity in Gamindustri while dealing with various threats. These threats often come in the form of monsters, rivalries between nations, or external forces seeking to disrupt the balance of power. The series emphasizes the comedic and lighthearted interactions between the characters, with Neptune often serving as the source of humor due to her laid-back attitude and tendency to break the fourth wall. Despite their differences, the CPUs and their allies work together to overcome challenges, showcasing themes of friendship, cooperation, and the importance of unity.
The plot is episodic, with each episode focusing on a self-contained story that highlights the personalities and dynamics of the main cast. While the series does not delve deeply into overarching storylines, it provides a glimpse into the world of Gamindustri and the relationships between its inhabitants. The tone is predominantly comedic, with occasional moments of action and drama, making it accessible to both fans of the franchise and newcomers. The series serves as an introduction to the "Hyperdimension Neptunia" universe, offering a condensed yet entertaining portrayal of its characters and setting.
