Mika Kanai is a Japanese voice actress and singer born on March 18, 1964, in Tokyo. She is affiliated with the talent management firm Ken Production. Kanai comes from a family with a strong background in theater and voice acting; her mother was voice actress Kazue Tagami, and her father was producer Akihisa Kanai. She graduated from the drama program at Toho Gakuen College.

Kanai began her career in 1989 and is known for her distinctive, high-pitched voice, which she has employed across a wide range of anime, video game, and dubbing roles for decades. Some of her most iconic and long-running roles include Melonpanna (also known as Melonpanna) in the long-running children's series Soreike! Anpanman, a character she has voiced since 1988, and the Snork Maiden (Floren) in Tanoshii Moomin Ikka. She is also widely recognized as the voice of the Pokémon Jigglypuff in the Japanese version of the Pokémon anime and related games.

Throughout her career, Kanai has taken on a variety of significant roles. In the 1990s, she voiced lead characters such as Yoko Tanaka in Idol Angel Yokoso Yoko and Wapiko in Goldfish Warning!. She played Tiffa Adill in After War Gundam X and both Vanilla H and Normad in the Galaxy Angel series. She is well-known to fans of the Higurashi: When They Cry franchise for her long-running portrayal of Satoko Hōjō, a role she has reprised in multiple series including Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, Kai, Rei, Gou, and Sotsu. In the Hyperdimension Neptunia franchise, she consistently voices the character Histoire across its many anime and game adaptations. Her other notable roles include Arche Klein in Tales of Phantasia, Sū in Uchi no 3 Shimai, Mimete in Sailor Moon S, and Pekorin in the Kirakira PreCure a la Mode series.

In recognition of her extensive career and contributions to the voice acting industry, Mika Kanai received the Kazue Takahashi Award at the 13th Seiyu Awards in 2019. The award honors a voice actor for their body of work in a wide range of genres, particularly for supporting roles.
