Description
Misato Uehara is introduced in the anime NANA as a devoted fan of the band Black Stones, also known as Blast. She is the daughter of Misuzu Uehara and Mr. Uehara, making her the younger half-sister of Nana Osaki and Takahiro Uehara. Misato physically resembles her mother and her older half-sister, and after becoming a fan of Black Stones, she cut her hair in the same style as Nana Osaki and bleached it blonde. She lives in Osaka, where her parents run an okonomiyaki shop.

Her personality is defined by a strong, almost consuming admiration for Nana Osaki and the band. She is an ardent fan from the very beginning of Blast's career and eventually befriends the band members. However, her motivations run deeper than simple fandom. The name under which she first presents herself, Uehara Misato, is not her true name. Her real name is Mai Tsuzuki. She adopted the name Misato Uehara, which is actually the name of Nana Osaki's real half-sister, as a means to get closer to Nana. She claimed that a fortune teller advised her to use that name to become closer to Nana, though it may have been a deliberate choice. Her initial role in the story is as an enthusiastic fan, but she later becomes Nana Osaki's assistant manager and joins the staff at Gaia, Blast's record label.

Her key relationships center around Nana Osaki, whom she idolizes, and the other members of Blast. The connection between them is deepened by a family history that Misato uncovers through her grandfather's diary. The diary revealed that her grandfather and Nana Osaki's grandmother were once lovers, establishing a past link between their families. Further developments in the story imply that Misato may have an additional secret connection to Nana; tabloids discovered that Nana Osaki's father's surname may have been Tsuzuki, which would mean that Misato, like the real Uehara Misato, is indeed Nana Osaki's half-sister.

Throughout her appearance in the story, Misato transitions from a fan who hides her identity to a more established figure within the band's professional circle. Her development involves the gradual revelation of her real name and her possible blood relation to Nana. In terms of abilities, she demonstrates resourcefulness and dedication in her efforts to enter Nana's world and later proves capable in her role as an assistant manager, handling the practical side of the band's operations. She is also shown to be cautious in her interactions with other fans, maintaining a degree of wariness.
