Description
Parthenos is a human high priestess from the story of A Wild Last Boss Appeared! and one of the Twelve Heavenly Stars, the elite group that served under the great conqueror Ruphas Mafahl. She holds the seat of Virgo among the Twelve and is the only human member of the group. Before she joined Ruphas, Parthenos served as a divine servant of the Goddess, acting as head of the clan that worshiped the Goddess and as the Goddess's proxy in governing the world. She was a descendant of the original humans created by the Goddess and, having grown up within the Goddess's sanctuary, had never truly seen the outside world. Believing wholeheartedly in the Goddess's absolute justice, she accepted the official account of a peaceful and blessed world, and, as a being specially recognized by the Goddess, she regarded ordinary inhabitants of the world as lowly compared to herself.
Her faith and worldview were overturned when she confronted Ruphas Mafahl. Despite commanding overwhelming forces that included elite guards, Parthenos was defeated by Ruphas alone, and in that encounter she witnessed the truth of the world, a truth that shattered her belief in the Goddess and the justice the Goddess was said to represent. Having seen reality for what it was, Parthenos surrendered and became an ally, passing from enemy to loyal retainer. She joined the Twelve Heavenly Stars and contributed her extensive knowledge of the Goddess, the Goddess's sanctuary, and the system used to manage the world, making her a valuable source of divine and administrative wisdom as well as a combat supporter.
In temperament Parthenos is deeply devoted and persevering. Her unshakable loyalty, first given to the Goddess, was transferred to Ruphas after she learned the truth, and she served with the same intensity of faith she had once shown in her former role. Even as the only human among the Twelve Heavenly Stars, she does not rely on exemption from hardship and is noted for her enduring and stubborn personality. After Ruphas was defeated and disappeared, Parthenos did not abandon her post. She waited for Ruphas's return for hundreds of years, living in the forests near Vanaheim and watching over Aries, another of the Twelve Heavenly Stars, who lived alongside her in that seclusion and remained somewhat naive about the outside world. In the era two hundred years later, Parthenos had occupied Vanaheim, the homeland of the Heavenly Winged Tribe, sealing it with a barrier and transforming it into an uninhabited sanctuary. During this long vigil she also raised a successor named Vigo. Her death eventually came from circumstances unrelated to any enemy, yet she continued to exist as an undead guardian, protecting the sanctuary and remaining true to her promise to await Ruphas.
As a fighter, Parthenos is a pure backline support specialist rather than a front-line combatant. She stays behind her allies and devotes herself to healing, defensive protection, and enhancement magic, continuously raising the combat power of those she supports. Her buffing ability is considered extraordinarily powerful, and her support arts mark her as one of the most dangerous support characters in the story despite her reluctance to engage directly in battle. She also possesses a unique skill called Zavijava, which removes the restrictions normally placed on celestial arts, allowing those powers to be used more freely. Combined with her healing and enhancement magic, this makes her an exceptional force multiplier in battle. Alongside these combat abilities, her long service as the Goddess's proxy left her with detailed knowledge of the world's divine systems, which proves important to Ruphas's group as they uncover the deeper workings of the world.
Over the course of the story, Parthenos develops from a sheltered and unquestioning servant of the Goddess into a clear-sighted and steadfast ally. Her initial arrogance and faith, born of isolation and divine favor, give way to a more grounded loyalty after she sees the truth for herself. Her perseverance, even through death and into undeath, demonstrates her defining quality: a determination to keep her word, protect those in her care, and wait for her leader's return.
